Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli

He's entering because he was getting passed up at Notre Dame.
He was behind Riley Leonard, a better QB than Nico at the time. ND made the playoffs last year with a better record than UT. They beat UGA and eventually lost to tOSU by a more respectable margin than UT did. They're a Blue Chip program; they don't recruit chumps, especially at QB. A 6'3" backup QB at Notre Dame will be a starter at most D1 programs. Could he be as good as Nico? It's a definite possibility. He's definitely better than any of the 3-stars in the portal currently, and most likely better at this point than the two we have left.

Im sure he’s better than the 3 stars. What I am saying as I think(and hope) they are going for current starting quarterbacks proven at this level. Im not saying this guy isn’t good or wouldn’t work, Im saying it’s not a “slam dunk”. In fact, I don’t think there are slam dunks.

It’s two people with different opinions…on a message board, debating something. Im not heated at all. I didn’t think you were either.

If any starters enter the portal without being coerced by Tennessee to leave their team, I'm all for it. I just hope UT doesn't "steal" a starting QB from a team that is depending on that QB for next season. Then we'd be no better than Nico.

That's probably the big drawback right there.
It would send a pretty lousy message IF he is planning on playing two years. He might declare for the draft after next year, of course, and that might be a known plan for him. It's not at all unusual for QBs to not play 4 years in college.

I really haven't looked very hard at the kid.

I like the Robertson kid from Baylor. Someone said, "If he's good enough for Mike Leach, he's good enough for me." I agree.

In the new portal era, the trick is finding someone who is underhyped but has the talent to do the job. You don’t want to scare off either of the guys you already have or the 5 star in the on deck circle. Thats a thin line to walk. I trust Heup to make the right call.

He did it to himself
So nobody beat him out so it s not the same thing. Getting yourself dismissed or quitting, whatever you call it, isn’t the same thing as another quarterback passing you on the depth chart due to performance. Thank you.

His position on the team was more than just play, it’s also about leading the team and being an example to others, which he never did. We don’t have to agree, just a difference of opinion.
Peace.

It’s not an opinion though. It’s a fact that while he was here he didn’t lose his staying job. That’s the discussion being had, was related to performance. That’s the context. Tony Robinson wasn’t passed on the depth chart in 85, he got in trouble and got dismissed. Two different things. It matters because being out performed was the point we were discussing.

I get what both of you are saying. Nico never lost the job for on the field performance; he lost the job and his place on the team due to lack of leadership and commitment to the team by skipping practice.

Respectfully I don’t know that yall are going to reach a point where you agree on this.

You are correct, it was not his play on the field, it was everything else why he got kicked off the team. Maybe I just don’t understand but having your team tell you to look elsewhere means you lost your job.
