Notre Dame coaching situation impact on UT search?

They have improved in pretty much all statistical categories from last season, and they'll be in a bowl game this year. I would be shocked to see them make a change, but am curious if it is putting any more pressure on MH to make a decision, especially if it's Kelly.

They would love to get Gruden but he has turned ND down once so I don’t think they will peruse him again. A lot of the boosters really like Jim Harbaugh and there are some other names that would surface but Kelly is not high on their get list in the future.

Guess they were willing to put up with the F-Bombs.

Notre Dame will never get back to the way they were in the old days. Same with Nebraska. Academic requirements are too rigorous.

I agree. I also think that is why we are seeing more of these smaller schools playing better football. With standards that aren't as high as some of the more prestigious programs todays athlete is just as contempt to play for a UFC, USF, ECU, etc. as opposed to the UTs, the UGAs, Notre Dames, Nebraskas of the college football world.

$17 million buyout for Weis? Are you #%%##@ serious? What has he ever done to justify any buyout?? He was just a coordinator in the NFL?? These AD's giving out huge buyouts for nothing should be incarcerated.

That is completely accurate. Their standards force them to recruit totally different than most schools. I for one hope Notre Dame never gets back on track, I cant stand that school. I have to hear about them way too much.

Hells Bells! Notre Dame signed him to a big fat juicy contract before the damn competition got to him. Got to beat that competition.

Well, let's be honest our academic rigor at UT for athletes really isn't that high, but our exposure is significantly greater. I can assure you that people who cannot get into ND can get into UT, UGA, and Nebraska almost as easily as they can a USF or ECU. If you want to be a professional player, playing and excelling in the SEC is path to the big bucks.

Mike Golic said this AM on his radio show that ND isn't THAT hard to get into. He even made a crack on himself stating that he was able to do it, so it can't be too tough. In all seriousness he said they do have standards higher than the NCAA, but there are plenty of other schools w/ higher standards.

As a ND fan it is honestly depressing living in this god-forsaken town.
First off to dispell rumors...a buyout would cost a minimum of 21 million, and possibly up to 28 million. Weis is not going anywhere.Yes we have had trouble, but what most people dont realize is yes we were 3-9 last year, but we also had our entire offense from the previous season end their eligibility, and most of our offensive line were freshmen. That makes a big difference.
Now this year we have improved in every single area, most notably defense which needed to be fixed...we've given away two wins to North Carolina and Pittsburgh that we both had won.
Now yes, we're down right now...5-4.But if you look at the talent we have the future is bright. We have 2 of the best WR's in the country in Golden Tate and Michael Floyd, we have one of the most improved and potential QB's in Clausen...next year we'll be great.
I do like UT,i honestly do, but i was born and will die bleeding gold and blue.

p.s.-whoever ut's next hc is....i hope we get the ND-ut rivalry gets back together....theyre always good games.

I would love to see ND and the Big Orange renew the series. The games back in the 90's were very good...I just wish Andy Kelly hadn't been intercepted at the end of the game we lost at Knoxville. Harper should have knocked that one down. :)

He got a 10 year, bazillion dollar contract after taking ND to the Fiesta Bowl and a top 10 ranking in his first year after the program had wandered in the wilderness under Davie and Willingham.

In all fairness, there is a pretty strong argument that head football coach at ND should be the highest paying position in college sports.

Then led them further into the wilderness than they ever had been before.

I for one would love for ND to fall. I'm sick of them getting their own freakin network (NBC) for games. Join a conference.

weiss should be up for firing imo, but based on what the AD's saying, it seems like he really wants to wait till next season before he has to make any decisions on that
