Nothing Lame about Lane...

I really don't have a fave team--went to Michigan State -- but I rarely get back there and only went to one game when I was in college as a fan...I was covering games most everyday since my freshman year of college.

I was more of an NFL fan, but I gave that up when Elway retired.

Just enjoy good games and good storylines

My pizza comment was directed at a select few -- I have enjoyed this board over the past 3 years because it's usually a good opportunity to exchange ideas and rationale debates...

But that's not where it's headed now...

A few posters are attempting to turn this into something it's not

So, your trying to discredit the very same people that keep your click count up and read your articles?? I am a pizza delivery driver and like my job for the time being, so watch what you say because some people have to do what they have to do right now in a tough economy. If I could write for a living and cover UT football, that would just be REALLY awesome. Since your not a fan though, I guess you don't see where it would be a blessing for those that aspired to do something like that. To each his own, I guess.

If I list my credentials, I get blasted for "reminding people" i'm an expert

If I don't, we get 200-post threads with the same select few blasting my credibility

THis is not a battle that can be won against anonymous voices....certainly not in this forum, and as I've mentioned none of them call to debate when I'm on radio (like now) or television (Every sunday night at 10 p.m.)

I'm not exactly sure why any UT coach is suddenly beyond reproach

I like the Vols' coaches that have been hired, and I think that you'd have to say they are doing OK right now -- though those losses to UCLA and Auburn didn't have to happen -- those were not CLEARLY more talented or better teams.

I think Monte has a lot more to work with than Lane...and so far, I'm actually more impressed with what Lane has done with his limited talent at QB and WR than anything else I've seen....though the O-Line coaches are a close second for the patchwork line that sparkled against Georgia

The last time I listened to your show, you were going off the air complaining that no one at UT would call you back and I nearly wrecked because I started laughing so hard.

The time I listened before before that you went postal on a caller who called in and asked if you had heard a rumor he had heard but didn't want to say on air. You quickly cut him off and went straight into the same tirade you have gone into defending yourself on this board - and I don't think that guy was even questioning your writing/reporting ability.

Personally I'd rather read a "Ask Wes" blog since 50% of the KNS articles link to Wes Rucker anyway.

Oh well, I'm glad my manager gave me 5 minutes to type this. Back to delivering pizzas........

How would you describe your relationship with members of the previous staff (i.e., I only spoke to them at press events, I had their telephone numbers on speed dial, we met socially, I attended their child’s wedding, birthday party, christening, etc.) and how would you describe your relationship with this staff?

Staffs

Huh?!?

I didn't include you in the select 3 that have been stalking me on the board...I don't mind someone disagreeing or arguing, or whatever...

But when it's the same three, and they are putting words in my mouth, I get upset

I suppose this is why most in the media don't exchange ideas in a public forum with fans

I thought i would try it, and for the most part it has been enjoyable and valuable

I would like to know where all of this "objective criticism" was the last few years? Are you just butt-hurt because you guys aren't "insiders" any more?

That's fine and all, but you don't know the occupation of those that you accuse of stalking you on here, unless they are admitted delivery drivers of course. I like a lot of your articles, but some just try and stir the pot and the responses are deserved, IMO. I personally don't think that you hate the staff, but I think they have made it harder to cover them by shutting out some of those in the Knoxville media that have a tendency to twist things into their own media driven agenda. Do you have an agenda, no, IMO. The thing I have problem with in your articles is that you just seem to bounce around from one thing to another and then when you can't find that certain lillypad to land on, then you go back and rehash things that are better off left alone. Kinda like the whole Pahokee thing. Keep up your work, but just remember that when you mix it up with those they maybe critical of you, you may not like what you hear or see.

I don't mind the critics...I don't like the lies
I don't mind putting myself out here for an occasional pounding, but when people lie about things I have said or written, I get hacked off.
You're right, I should not have let a select few get under my skin....I did.
That's a sign to me I'm reading too many message board posts and interacting too much for my own good.
The Pizza Delivery comment wasn't meant to discredit anyone's profession, but merely to suggest that you don't know who's hiding behind the other side of the computer screen...it could be anybody.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who make a lot more money than I do -- but I didn't become a sportswriter to make money. I do it because I enjoy covering sports, breaking down the game, getting behind the scenes and trying to give my take on how things really are.
We all have different perspectives, and I respect the right for others to have different takes.
But when someone lies and puts words in my mouth, that's pretty low.
I've done this long enough to know there will always be a select few who are never happy.

Just a little too trusting and naive when it comes to message boards.

The concept of interacting with a great deal of people sounds good in theory, but it's difficult in reality.

The part where the guy revealed he followed me into a bar a few months ago was kind of scary!

I haven't been out since then, so I'm sure it was him

.... I do it because I enjoy covering sports, breaking down the game, getting behind the scenes and trying to give my take on how things really are......

And I wonder if that is not part of the problem. I question if some current staff (Pearl) and previous staff (Fulmer, Chavis) opened themselves up to you thus the reason you sing/sang their praises and this staff has not embraced you thus your criticism.

Wow, I seem to have missed this cataclysmic breakdown and the ensuing fallout.

I've always held your blogs in contempt. Your writing tone changes with the ebb and flow of the season. Your vacant attempts to capitalize on the ensuing emotions by attempting to pimp your blog here for more views was tolerated/ignored by most... but your hubris and slander was obviously not well received.

So, my advice (for what it's worth) is stop posting links to your drivel and actually post a thread to general discussion. Oh, and drop the retarded "cool face".

I'm quite confident Mike Strange could show up here and have not the slightest problem. Of course, that would be because he actually has a clue about the subjects he's opining about.

what does anonymity have to do with this? There are plenty of people on this site who can, even anonymously, make assertions and support them to the point of gaining credibility. The litmus test is the quality of the assertions and underlying support. Not whether we know someone's name.

This was really lame. Why not the CEO of Dell instead of the pizza delivery guy?

I don't know about the lying piece and I, too, would find that bothersome.

Could you be one of the select few who aren't happy? Seems to me that most of the pushback is from those who are damned happy with our coaching situation.

It's almost impossible to be a fan and cover the team.

It's also hard to be jealous of what the staff makes and cover the team.

Lies? You mean like your assertion that we've met and I was friendly to you?

you really are something guys...

Hat, next time you're around me, don't act like you're cool with me, like you did the first time, OK?

I don't like two-faced people

And I really don't like liars...and the people who put words in my mouth are liars...that's you Kiff and Lofton

You show me one blog where I said the previous staff was better than this one....

Your agenda against the former staff is sick...it's like you're attacking your very own program's tradition and accomplishments

those guys are gone...move on. Evaluate the new staff for what it is, otherwise...

Idiotic.

I'm not a UT fan, but if I was, I'd put you in your place.

I just feel sorry for the people who have to wade through your sophomoric posts to enjoy a good board discussion

People come to VolNation for information...you're like the kid who pulls the fire alarm....starving for attention and power, however you can get it at anyone and everyone's expense.

How did I miss this garbage post?

I'm late to this party... But I find it funny you made a comment about Pizza Delivery Drivers. Those guys, unlike you, give a service to the community.

And what's sad is those said drivers make more than you do... Not even counting tips.

So how are you gonna put me in my place?

Absolutely right. None of us are opposed to hearing any sort of criticism about the current staff. We are just opposed to the same argument spun a little differently 100 times in blogs backed up with bogus facts. If Griff actually had valid reasons for criticism, I might have a little respect for him. But, instead, he writes garbage, gets called out on it, and then cries that there are 3 people talking about him.:cray: I would welcome Griff in here if he could ever actually back up any of his arguments. I'm quite confident, like Hat, that Mike Strange could and would be warmly received by VolNation.

I guess multiple direct quotes from articles you have written must be terrible lies. There have been MANY (not just 3) disagreeing with you and taken things YOU have written and proved how they are based on nothing other than your opinion. There have also been plenty of individuals on here that have demonstrated why you were wrong about your opinions based on facts and other circumstances. I guess the easy thing to do instead of looking at the issues and facts head on is to just categorically disclaim them all by calling them "lies." No other sports writer in the nation looks at why a defense, or offense, has certain results and just states, "we pay our coaches way more than what the product on the field is worth." There is nothing objective to this anymore than fans calling for Crompton's starting job just because he sucked, while not taking into account any other considerations as to why he has the starting job.
