I'd have your level of confidence if there was something in that game last night to indicate that they were a good team who was playing poorly.

They did all sorts of things last night that indicated to me that this was an average, at best, team playing poorly.

The OP is absolutely correct. If we lay the wood to VT, I think everyone will sort of forget the App State game. Whether we can, or will, is obviously another discussion.

I will say that last year we were freaking out on here after the BG game because they consistently gashed us. Then we looked completely different the very next week in the Oklahoma game through over 3 quarters. It's college football. These guys aren't robots. The most important thing is that we won the game. We may have lost a few years off our lives, but we won and we move on. I bet we don't come out overconfident next week!

I agree OP and I am sticking with my prediction of 10-2 as well. Losing the next game would make that extremely difficult but I believe we can win...until we lose. :D

Lol not sure which household you were in but I'll speak for most and say domestic calls for police spiked last night and someone kicked the **** out of their dog and broke some lightbulbs

I disagree, I think the miscues overshadowed what Deborg was trying to do, not show VT what was in the play book labeled "How to Kick VT azz" very vanilla, no fancy gimmick plays, reverses, RB passes etc. etc...........very vanilla play calling. They wanted to work on the passing game and Dobbs was not feeling it........so, the adjustment..........run the damn ball and take back the momentum.........and it worked, we won, they did not.......its a W. The 40 second game App State was running was perfect for how we were playing Defense at first, then the 2nd half........UT shut them down...........17 points vs. 0 .........I say pretty good considering we tried like hell to give them the opportunity to upset an SEC Team.

Ok negavols how about just chill out!
The world doesn't end because we didn't have a heisman type game. My positive spin to trump your negative.
1. Tennessee vols 1-0
2. Appalachian state 0-1
3.Tennessee beats appalachian state.
Appalachian state beat georgia southern 31-13 last year and what did georgia southern do last year that's right took georgia to overtime in Athens middle of the season meaning what? Not a damn thing a win is a win!

Sad fact is that I used to have a friend that worked in a crisis call center. She said they got 3x the calls after a Tennessee loss...same probably true for other SEC schools

This reminded me of the 2012 USA Olympic basketball team -

Krzyzewski gave his team Friday off, canceling practice to rest players coming off a grueling NBA schedule and allow them a chance to get out and to other events and root on their Olympic teammates. The day off may have cost the Americans a little of their edge as they came out somewhat sloppy.

With the medal round approaching quickly, the Americans aren’t likely to skip another day at the gym.

“We can be more ready to play than we were,” Krzyzewski said. “But overall this was a really good game for us. Winning like we did was terrific for us.”

I'm not comparing App State to Lithuania - just the lack of focus (imo) on the part of our guys. It can (and did imo) make all the difference in the world. Fortunately, like 2012 Team USA, we're still on track to win Gold.
