Notes from TN @ SEC Media Day

And the few that do are usually the number one player in the country. Guys that I dunno, dominate all the camps. Come from a football family. At least they are the ones you'd expect? eh?

And miss Sr season of high school and can't enroll in college early and thus aren't near in football shape. Right?

The reality is Frosh make impacts rarely in the SEC and more especially on the interior line. The other spot Frosh rarely make a positive impact is Center and left Tackle.

He wasn't a bust. He played fine for a freshman DL, particularly considering he had to sit out his senior year in HS. The problem was some of you had such high expectations for him, there's no way he could have lived up to those expectations. You expected he would come in and make every tackle and never get blocked--he was a freshman for gosh sakes. Give him time

Myself and plenty of others said this would happen over and over and over after they signed. And sure enough, here we are calling really good true FR DTs "underachievers".

I didn't get to watch. Did they ask the players about what the Florida guys were saying? If so, how did they respond?

They did ask. Our guys showed the class we all have come to expect. They didn't take the bait at all. Very proud of them.

This shows that the plane is owned by the University

N111UT Aircraft Registration ? FlightAware

A B300, marketed as the Super King Air 350i. Very groovy turbo prop. I've jumped from A models and the more basic model 90. Demand for the 200 ans 300 series keeps them too pricey for conversion to jump ships. Though most King Airs are relatively fast to altitude, I prefer the big doors of DeHavilland Twin Otters and Cessna Caravans.

I thought McElroy had the most honest, level-headed assessment of our team, and has since the end of last season.

His comments on McKenzie were directed, in his own words, as a challenge to Kahlil, and pretty accurate. If I were KMac, I would listen to a recording of that entire segment before each game.

All the crying for poor K Mac is a little funny.

Media bashing....forgetting that two of them were DT's themselves.

Doesn't matter if he didn't play as a senior. The services didn't care.
Nobody forced him to come in out of shape. I'm sure coaches didn't expect it.

He was overrated by the services or he under performed. UT seems proud of his ranking as they list him as the #1 overall rated prospect of his class on his BIO. So if the #1 guy can have a moderate impact and you're all happy with that then cool.

Other people think he should have come to camp in shape and ready to play seeing as how he was doing a lot of talking before fall practice.

His stats alone are not the problem here either, S. Tuttle didn't really have eye popping stats. IMO, watching the games though showed a much bigger interior push from Tuttle then K Mac. Tuttle also earned more playing time early.

Oddly enough people think your bashing if the #1 guy is out performed by another player of the same position on the same team.

True freshmen ball out every year in this conference.

Look at how great Calvin Ridley, Antonio Callaway, and Christian Kirk were last year. Remember how great Myles Garrett and Derek Barnett were two years ago.

I thought the criticism was fair for Kahlil but not Shy. Shy was on his way to a freshmen all-american season before the injury. If he gets back to 100%, he has superstar written all over him.

Kahlil was a disappointment though. He needs to step up big time. His talent demands it.

Khalil a disappointment? Lol okay...let's compare some stats...Khalil vs Trent Thompson....both freshman DT in the SEC last year.

Khalil - 24 total tackles
1 tfl
1 sack

Thompson - 25 total tackles
2 tfl
.5 sack

But yet Thompson was freshman AA and all sec freshman...Khalil was right there with him....so if he's a disappointment then TT is also.

Khalil didn't play football for almost 2 years before he finally suited up for UT but yet he was a disappointment.

Also don't sit here and say criticism was warranted for Khalil but not shy. Neither one of them deserved it.

You're just a moron for thinking Khalil was gonna come into the SEC after being away from football for so long and have 50 tackles and 10 sacks.

Tuttle earned more playing time because he was an EE. So he had more time to learn the playbook, go through spring practice, and be in the S&C program.

Lots of folks forget or don't realize Tuttle was enrolled early and had the benefit of those practices where Khalil showed up in the fall as a true freshman. There is no doubt he was out of shape, BUT to compare KMac & Shy's freshman campaigns as starting at the same place and time is not accurate for any one who may do that.

Also don't forget McElroy said the Kahlil was a "disappointment"

If he did, he was pretty much right. There were a couple reasons why KMac should've struggled last year to have a big impact....he was a true freshman and he had missed his senior HS season/hadn't played football in a long time.

But do you recall all the hype around KMac after he nearly killed one of our guys in fall camp in the circle of life...and after he ran over Coleman at the Open Practice? It was palpable. My expectations were that he'd be a force last year, at least in the latter part of the season after rounding into game shape. Quite honestly, that didn't happen. Not saying he didn't do some good things, but he wasn't anywhere near as good as being the #1 player in the country (according the Scout) or a concensus 5star player. So honestly, it wouldn't have been something I'd have brought up or pointed to given the circumstances around Kahlil last year....but I can understand him saying it as a matter of fact.

KMAC missed Spring practice and didn't show till Summer, 2nd session maybe. Did Thompson get Spring practice at UGa? It sure helped Tuttle, that may be the difference.
