Notes from the press conference

Not trying to be sexiest but this is why you don't need a woman President. Tough decisions have to be made without emotion. And no I'm a Trump supporter.

You definitely aren't sexiest, or even sexy, with that kind of post. But sexist yes, considering the most well respected leader in the world is currently a woman.

Interested article in Seattle Times.
says Washington State President Kirk Shultz, hired Currie at KSU. And they are looking for a new AD after Ex-AD Moos left to go to Nebraska.
Wondering if Currie was looking for another job.

Anybody considering hiring him should also be fired for cause. The entire nation watched this last week unfold.

Currie chose his allegiance. He did this to himself. He’s done as AD at any meaningful school. He’s too toxic and he did it to himself

If you're saying who I think your saying... Whoa.

And who would that be?

-She's come to understand the love for Tennessee athletics

She got served humble pie. She's an academic and didn't really care about, or had a grudge against sports. Sure, I want UTK to be a bastion of academic excellence.. but sports pay the bills and pay the pay checks.

-Thank VolNation for support and love for this university. Our goals are the same. We want a great football program. It's a source of pride for all of us.

I'm skeptical of her sincerity.

-Fulmer: I hope to be a stabilizing and unifying force. Sometimes when you're younger you screw it up and when you're older you don't make the same mistakes. Everybody here wants to be champions. We need communication and trust and working together to make it happen.

I think he took a shot at Currie for the getting him fired and for being an idiot and having 9 coaches say no.
But he also took a dig at himself and is letting us know he's grown.

Little boy from the Wimmin Haters Club weighs in. Strong women are so scary!

There was nothing strong about her press conference performance. She is also at the helm of the school that just conducted the worst coaching hire of all time. Lead by her first hire.

I will say that the best thing about Fulmer as AD, is that he's not looking at the position as a stepping stone in his career.

Hopefully he is good at the job and after two years gets renewed and works till he is ready to retire completely.

If he hires Tee we're going to look like Duke in the 90's. Meanwhile, still no coach, still no new recruits.

a Head Coach is only successful as the people around him. Trust me, the staff he would put together would be very very very good.

I wish there had been more discussion about the "process" for selecting a coach. That seems to be what got the University in this mess in the first place. Is the decision a unilateral one by the A.D. going forward, will there be a committee etc? Will Phil choose multiple candidates and a group decide on one etc. Not sure what works best, but if they can avoid going through this again, obviously that makes sense.

I hope Phil at least talks to all coaches that are interested.

I think he has choice #1 and #2 already lined up and he is going after them. After this debacle, I think he knows what will be acceptable and what won't.

i would imagine she said Currie was "suspended" so they could later try to find a reason to fire him with cause.

I would agree but I think we see him dismissed with a large portion of his buyout to keep his mouth shut. There are a lot of skeletons here and Davenport doesn't need them to come out of the closet.

I thought I heard Phil say they were going to find a coach that wanted to be here. I wonder if Gruden is still interested. Hoping we will not have to wait long to find out. I have more confidence in Fulmer to get a great coach than anyone else so I'm a little more at peace with the situation. GBO

My last comments about Davenport then I'll let it go.

1. People tying this to her gender are misguided - her performance has nothing to do with being a woman and more to do with being in a position she's not been in before trying to navigate a shizz show.

2. That said it was a weak performance. She may think she got out fine by not answering any questions but the questions remain. She didn't need to answer the Leach question but calling this a "suspension" without details and saying she's glad someone asked why he was suspended and the answer was it's been a tough week simply come across as conflict avoidance. Sure sounds like it wasn't her decision if she cannot articulate the reasoning for the decision.

3. She's been weakened by the search and today was an opportunity to take charge back - instead she punted. Missed opportunity for her to regain some power.

With Coach Fulmer at the controls we can finally get a good nights sleep and not have to worry about waking up to find out some crazy coach has been offered and they will get back to us if they are interested in taking our $7 million. Good Grief

That will not happen again, Coach Fulmer has the ball now!!

Gruden wasn't/isn't/has never been interested in coaching UT. He is only interested in trolling UT. When will you understand that? He has actually said that he doesn't want to coach in the NCAA.

I gotta say that I'm proud of VolNation for sticking to their guns and not letting the initial anger subside. Y'all did good. Rest this weekend.

Huh?
Who was I charge to hire the coach?

Why the hell does the AD have to get approval from the chancellor? Sounds like she ****ed this up.

Come on people, get real. Davenport can't say anything about what happened, this is like a bad auto accident, the ambulance chasing lawyers are everywhere and they would take anything she said and twist it around to get more money out of the University.

She did the right thing, said very little about the past events.

She is completely incompetent.

A country bumpkin football coach that has been irrelevant for 10+ years just manipulated the hell out of her.
