I think it was 2 things:
1) Rarely, if ever, has she been in that type of situation
2) She was read the riot act by someone above (booster, etc.) about how important not just football, but athletics in general is to this institution

Freak, one thing to add. Fulmer stressed that it is going to take time to turn this around.

At the 12:50 mark of the press conference:

"It will not be easy, it will take some time, but we will succeed."

Good points. I don't follow Cincinnati but I'm betting she didn't have to do this type of presser there.

Hopefully she realizes now just how much athletics means to this university.

Interested article in Seattle Times.
says Washington State President Kirk Shultz, hired Currie at KSU. And they are looking for a new AD after Ex-AD Moos left to go to Nebraska.
Wondering if Currie was looking for another job.

She doesn't have to. She just has to trust the person she puts over the athletics. Currie didn't work for her. He worked for haslam. That has been rectified.

Man....all my depression just left with that one presser. I honestly think that Davenport really didn't understand the love Volnation has for its athletics. She does now.
Phillip Fulmer got me hyped up. We want to play any team, any time and any where!! That's what I like to hear. He will bring in a coach that truly loves Tennessee football and wants to see it win championships again!

Makes you wonder if he was interviewing Leach or if he was really being interviewed for the AD job at WSU.....

I fixed it for her. This dumb dumb cost us one hell of a coach in Leach. At what point does she lose her job, she's just as guilty as Currie.

If the Board of Trustees hasn't raked her over the coals at least once, I'd be shocked.

By not being on top of the situation from the minute the football season started going down the tubes to the events of this past week, she and Currie have done tremendous damage to the University of Tennessee in terms of brand and reputation.

I can promise you that's what happened. That was an individual in fear for her job. A lot of these political BS types can handle all kinds of PR disasters but when their job is on the line they start getting all emotional. She still doesn't give a damn about football but she now understands that we do and that her job is tied to a successful program.

Easy. Phil is not a Haslam yes man. He has enough high powered backing to balance the factions without UT losing the Haslam money. He brought instant credibility to the entire charade, and instantly diffused the next bomb. He said what needed to be said and will focaus on current and potential players while conducting the search for coach. This was the best solution going forward and would serve well to let him have atleast 5 years before he moves out.

She's not a "strong woman", she's a moron. Not that I condone what he said, but she's far from a "strong woman". She heard the chants at the basketball game and panicked. Hopefully, I'll see her presiding over a community college next year.

I liked how Fulmer said his top priority was to fix the football program. Hiring a great coach is just the first step. He's looking at the big picture.

Yea, she does. She needs to know how to manage the all the politics that come with a position like this, including the boosters.
This power struggle should have been dealt with before the hiring of Currie. That is unless those struggling for power didn't make their wishes known to her. If that's the case, they are equally to blame.

Hopefully you will get a new book..Davenport has no clue what she has got herself into..But hopefully she will find out SOON..Sure she can find a job as a principal at a kindergarden or middle school. But she is way in over her head,as was currie..So, 2 down and 1 to go..

Strange, my mother, aunt, and a female cousin all said she comes off like a b*tch who doesn't know how to do the difficult job she has.

Are they strong women haters?

Or maybe, just maybe, it has zero to do with her being a woman and more to do with her being inept.
