Chancellor Davenport (reading a prepared statement)
-Says she regrets the hurt this has caused.
-She's come to understand the love for Tennessee athletics
-She asked Currie to return to Knoxville yesterday afternoon, that had nothing to do with any specific coach.
-High expectations come with challenges and challenges come with tough decisions.
-Decided to make a change that is in the best interest. Currie has been suspended and Fulmer is AD.
-Currie worked tirelessly. And was given full authority to find a coach for Tennessee.
-Appreciate how support and respectful Fulmer has been since she arrived. He understands the athletic department.
-Thank VolNation for support and love for this university. Our goals are the same. We want a great football program. It's a source of pride for all of us.
Phillip Fulmer introduced. (also reading a prepared statement)
-Tennessee is a fantastic institution. Our graduates are changing the world and our sports are front doors to our university.
-Our football program has the tradition and resources to play with anyone, anytime, and that's what we plan to do again.
-It's time that we all pull together to be part of the solution. There's much work to be done and I'm honored to have this opportunity.
-Our first job is to turn around our football program that has struggled in recent years.
-Our great fans deserve teams that make them proud.
-We first must find a coach who wants to be at Tennessee and appreciated the opportunity and is driven to win at the highest level.
-I have been a part of this program at it's best. I've seen what honest communication, trust, and hard work can achieve.
-It's amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit.
-I'm asking all of our fans; let's go have fun winning championships.
Taking questions.
-Davenport: asked why didn't you give Currie a chance to sign Leach? Long pause..... only here to talk about the current situation, not other coaches.
-Fulmer: Have not established timetable for coach because it all happened so fast.
-Fulmer: I hope to be a stabilizing and unifying force. Sometimes when you're younger you screw it up and when you're older you don't make the same mistakes. Everybody here wants to be champions. We need communication and trust and working together to make it happen.
-Fulmer: Will you reach out to commits? Absolutely. It's the backbone of what we do. There are some good commits that we need to keep and there are some guys out there who are probably interested in Tennessee who might not have been before.
I've been charged to find the right guy for this job. More times than not you like someone who's been a head coach.
-Fulmer: I will not serve as the head coach or interim head coach. I will absolutely be touching base with commits and any prospect that is interested.
-Davenport: we do not have all the financial details of Curries contract worked out.
/the end.
