Notes from the press conference

None of the last three button-down, business-type A.D.s has been worth the tits on a boar hog. Doug Dickey was a turn-coat in the manner of Lane Kiffin, but when he came back as A.D., he did a helluva lot better job than the ones who followed him. Here's hoping that Phil performs as well.

Fulmer said something like "I think there will be recruits interested in coming here that weren't before"

She sounds very uncomfortable answering questions. Phil on the other hand sounds like he has a plan and knows what needs to be done. Glad to see him back working for the university he cares so much about!
She is not use to people challenging or questioning her.

More importantly, by seeing and hearing her, then seeing and hearing him, I *think* that there has been a fundamental shift in power.

At least, I sincerely hope so.

I have to say, and I understand that people get uncomfortable in front of cameras or in front of a crowd, but Davenport does absolutely nothing in these press conferences to dispel the notion that she has no idea what she's doing.

I don't think she'll survive this debacle. She'll either realize that she isn't cut out to be chancellor at an SEC school that is serious about sports, or someone will realize it for her. I'm guessing the former, and she's finds new employment by May of 2018.

I think I know where are main problem is. That woman (Davenport) is a bumbling idiot.
Evaded questions and would not tell the truth about the Leach fiasco.
Fulmer looked like a nervous wreck. He needs a pair of glasses that fit.

This so called "news conference" was totally useless and a waste of time. We already knew what they told us.

I get you don't want to air it out but in the absence of official information; unofficial information will fill the void and the likelihood of it being positive to her and others is highly unlikely.

You have to manage the information flow not cut it off completely.

Didn't see it ....

"She's come to understand the love for Tennessee athletics"

Can you elaborate? She didn't understand that previously? Heck, that may be part of the problem!

Her epitaph.... just add "Too late to understand."

I'm assuming Davenport was a Haslam-approved hire. If we saw a coup, or semi-coup today, against the Haslams, Davenport could be another casualty eventually.

I think this job is way too big for her, and in the same manner the AD job was too big for Currie and the HC jobs were too big for Dooley/Butch. I just hope the AD job isn't too big for Phil.

Wow, Phil killed it. I got strangely emotional watching him in an official capacity again.

Paraphrasing... "we have the resources to complete with anyone, anytime, any place..."

Damn straight, Phil, go get 'em.

Phil's comments were pitch perfect. He went out of his way to acknowledge that the fans were not only not the problem but they were right to have the expectations they do.

His comments about communications and trust in particular were interesting - wonder if he was talking to Davenport

I think Davenport has been raked over the coals by the Trustees for all the damage to UT Brand and lack of control she has exhibited with the Currie situation... this ain't Cincinnati... this is the Big Leagues.

What is the over and under for threads for former assistants being interviewed?
