Not understanding CBJ willingness to save players for next season at the expense of t

Where did CBJ or anyone connected to the team say this? You're basically taking posts on Volnation as facts when there isn't proof to back it up.

Sparty has already explained they actually were trying to redshirt Dobbs no matter what. When it didn't happen last year, they wanted it this year. I don't know his connections, but he mentioned it the other day. It had something to do with a promise to his family or something like that and his education.

Nothing in my post says anything about Dobbs starting all season. Are you saying that Dobbs would not have given us a better chance againt UGA once Worley went down?

Depends on which Dobbs showed up. Last year in 1 half against Bama he was 5-12 passing for 75 yds and rushed 3 times for 19 yds, with 0 TDs and 0 INTs. Loss.

Against Mizzou, 26-42 passing for 240 yds, but 0 TDs and 2 INTs. 7-45 rushing. Loss.

Against Auburn 16-25 for 128 yds. 0 TDs and 1 INT. Rushing, 10-50 yds. Loss.

Against Vandy 11-19 53 yds. 0 TDs and 2 INTs. 11-23 yds rushing. Loss.

Against UK 14-23 199 yds. 2 TDs and 1 INT. Rushing 7-52 yds. Win.

So as a starter he was 1-3 and in 4 1/2 games he threw 2 TDs and 6 INTs.

Couple that with all the reports about how he struggled with accuracy in spring and fall practice.

So, no, prior to his coming in against Bama last Saturday there was nothing I saw previous that led me to believe he could have won the games we lost this season, including the UGA game. He certainly played well enough Saturday night that in hindsight we can always speculate that he might have played better during that 3rd qtr stretch in the UGA game. But it is easy to speculate. I don't know how Dobbs has looked in practice this season. Neither do you. The coaches however, do. I'm pretty sure they have a better handle on their players' development than you or I.

Not understanding CBJ willingness to save players for next season at the expense of this one. It would be different if we had no chance to win significant games, but UGA & UF were very winnable with different personel decisions. By no means do I believe that Dobbs should have started over Worley at the start of the season, in a tight game against UGA with the team playing their hearts out, going for the win should have been more important than saving Dobb"s redshirt once Worley was knocked out of the game. The following week against the Gators, both teams were struggling to move the ball. Had we brought Dobbs off the bench, that very easily could've been the spark we needed to actually get the ball into the endzone. When I buy season tickets I expect to see a team fighting to win every game by playing the guys that give us the best chance to win each time out; not a team trying to be competitive as they can while saving players for next year that could give us a better shot this year. After seeing what Dobbs brings to the field, it makes me wonder about the decision not to play Blair.

Obviously, you don't comprehend the word "DEPTH." That is all.

Those stats look way better than anything Peterman has put up, and once it was obvious that Worley was not playing vs Bama, It didn't take long for the staff to decide that Dobbs was going to play.

It's called preparing for the long haul. Apparently, Jones looks to build a program for the future and isn't willing to sacrifice long term goals for short term gratification.

He's playing 21 freshmen, none of whom are SEC playing weight, even Barnett. 18 year olds against 21 year olds week after week. What is he sacrificing again?

I read volnation every day and rarely post but I have to chime in here. This very question was brought up Sunday morning on all of the local sports shows. All of the media folks that have been covering practice since spring said that Dobbs had appeared to have taken a step backward. His throws weren't even close to being accurate....and for the love of God, he was on the depth chart behind Peterman. I don't think it was some kind of "save players for later" conspiracy. I genuinely believe these coaches put the best players out there and Dobbs hadn't shown anything in practice that pushed him ahead of Worelybird. JMO

You build DEPTH at the qb by signing at least 1 QB in each class, not by trying to manufactor a 3 yr starter at the possible expense of wins.

Was listening to a sports talk radio show (NOT FINEBAUM) the other day and heard them say every elite program in the country signs a QB in every recruiting class........I chuckled. I still don't understand not signing a QB last year given the situation TN is in.

Not sure I get your point. It may be considered a sacrifice because he is not playing some of the more experienced upperclassmen.

Seems to me like he is investing in the future by preparing the younger guys as best he can by giving them playing time now. It appears the problem is a lack of talented upperclassmen in certain positions. Therefore, he sits them and by playing the younger guys, they will be more experienced in the future. The new recruits will supply the depth in the future.

Start over Worley at the beginning of the season? NO
Come in the UGA game after Worley is injured? YES.

Peterman played for what, three series? Two series before Worley trotted back in to the game? I don't know who you have giving you information on practice, but anything and everything I have ever heard from anyone with any sort of credibility emphasizes how well Peterman has looked in practice. Was not even close between the two at that point in time IMO.
