Not to be the Fly in the Ointment

Op I'm not sure if you noticed but at opening kick off a lot of our starters didn't have many more snaps than the 2nd and 3rd strings so I'd say CBJ may of had an idea where he needed the play time most.

Yes...yes you are trying to be the insect in the goo. There's no other reason to make such a OP.

And next time use some line breaks.

Vol fans just can't be happy. I believe if we the NCAA championship, that someone would post a thread stating how depleted we were going to be the next year.

Or how we're not going to be able to keep Butch.

Pig needs to work on his passing accuracy . I thought the play calling was great on both sides of the ball. Thank God for A.J. staying to quarterback our young defense.

First and foremost, overall we looked good as a team and the win was awesome as well as the crowd. Bottom line is we should have embarrassed them last night and run them out of our house. We put up a quick 14 points and laid an egg offensively from that point. Play calling went from decent to not good at all. The door should have been slammed on this team at the half and should have got the 2's and 3's some valuable live snaps with the continuation of the original game plan with those guys. Plus I would not have been near as nervous about our studs getting hurt. I truly believe, if we stay healthy and not lose our#1 guys, we can be right there with EVERY team on our schedule, primed to win. That being said, the play calling can't be 3 straight read options and punt or 2 swing passed and an incompletion and punt. Most important, it is a must to pick up every -and 1 yard to go at all cost, to be an efficient football team. Twice last night, we failed at it miserably against a lesser opponent. That can't happen and our play calling MUST be very good for us to successful this year with this team.

Truly, I'm not being negative, just thinking out loud. Either way, I'm behind Butch and company, was just a little concerned with the play calling last night. Your thoughts?

Utah st. was embarrassed, their media made them believe they where gonna come in our stadium and run all over us, you say lesser opponent?.. we have been the lesser opponent for the last few years. last night was the most efficient team i have seen in a long time... not bashing just saying this team will do very well in the years to come.

I put some in the OP.

So basically, if any of our plays dont work, we need to call better plays? I get it.....all plays must be successful and we need to score at least 50 points by half time so we can take out our starters and get our back ups some playing time. Sounds good to me, I maybe the only one, but I agree you the OP!!!!!!!!

Their fronts dictated our run game (or lack thereof)...that was probably the most exotic defense we will see all season long. Saw multiple times where they had 2 down linemen and would blitz a total of 6. Very creative.

As usual, it's always being negative. The main point being made on this thread was that none of goo players got hurt and our other kids get some PT.

WTF? Did you even read your original post? 90% of it, YOUR POST, was negative. Really, OP? Really?

Shut the front door!!

As young and inexperienced as we are, I think getting our 1's some game experience is more important than playing the 2's and 3's at this point in the season.:compute:

My thoughts?

We were favored by 5 and won by 31. If the OP had been told before the game we'd win 38-7, he'd been happy as a pig in slop.

Was it perfect? No. Do we need to improve? Sure. But it was a dang great night and shouldn't be brought down by this negavol

WTF is correct! I took your unneeded advice and read the post again. Just as I thought it said exactly what I thought.

Take another minute and read it again with an open mind and tell me 1 thing I said in the op that is truly negative (except for "laying an egg" really should have said went vanilla) then tell me if the few thing I pointed out was negative or just some random thoughts that would be beneficial for the team moving forward.

Or don't. Could care less. Like the op said I'm behind Butch all the way and was happy with the win. Just my thoughts once again

Maybe when you said that the play calling went from "decent to not good at all" threw me off the trail of a positive post.

Of course, I've always been better at mathematics than reading comprehension...

We know its not the exact same defense as from last year but the system is. That defense was dominant last year and I think is still very good this year. Our defense was just better against their offense. Our offensive talent eventually wore down their defense, especially when there seemed no hope on the other side of the ball. The second half the flood gates opened and our superior talent came shining through. I account some of the offensive struggles in the first half (2nd qt. really) to first game jitters and re-adjusting mentally from the excitement of scoring so quickly to realizing UtS wasn't going to lay down.

I like our chances going forward, especially if Worley can be as efficient as he was last night throwing the ball (even running on occasion). Our running game needs work albeit more like tweeks- we seemed to call a very vanilla game on the ground. Plus UtS was determined to stop the run. I think we'll see improvement by leaps and bounds by mid-season. Hurd is going to find his legs and when that happens watch out. Lane was solid again for us too.

I wouldn't say putting up an additional 24 points is laying an egg. :loco:

What he's saying is if that were an sec team we would not have won because we have to capitalize every time we get the ball weather it's 3 or 7 we can't end any quarter without a score if we want to last in the SEC
