If Dungy was so much better, why did Tampa Bay essentially sacrifice their future to get Jon Gruden?

The Bucs had a limited amount of time and Dungy wasn't getting it done. So they upgraded.

Yeah, it's not like coaching had anything to do with that. The Florida and Alabama games were real nail biters the previous two years.

I'm not trying to bash Dooley (TCHFCATUTK), but I never understood the hire considering that his previous track record was not impressive. I'm still pulling for him, but I'm not going to miss him if he's canned.

On Dooley's behalf #4, that is a consequence of his poor decisions. When the bad behavior popped up in year 1 he had a choice to stomp it out or let it go and baby it. He chose to baby it, even up to the point of DR being kicked off, he argued with Hart to keep him on. The bad behavior from a few players is all on him, he decided to tie himself to those problems. Be patient and let this season play out and at the end I am sure AD Hart will judge CDD decisions and then CDD will have to deal with the consequences good or bad.

dooley has had enough time to show he can't coach. to keep him will do nothing except put us at 6-6 maybe at 7-5 every year. time for a new coach. that simple.

He also got fired -- Fulmer has a NC --its much tougher to win an NCAA NC than a Super Bowl

exactly - NCAA teams win one then load up on 5 stars for several years, of course with Alabama it may be even longer which makes winning one for other schools that much harder

Miles won with Sabans players and luck -- Chizik had some rich boosters and a wizard OC help him out, soon he will be gone because his 5 star recruits were over rated (much like Palardy and Darr)

I had us winning 8 maybe 9 games this year, we are right on schedule. Message for DD haters, do ya really think a new head coach is gonna come in and wiggle his nose and ShaZamm we will beat everyone...... get a grip!!!! Can we play this year out game by game like we are supposed to??? If we had beat Fl people would be hailing DD. If we beat ga, sc, and bama all the DD haters would turn around and sing his praises like the fish floppers they are. A new head coach would kill recruiting. Most will disagree but it will take 4 to 5 years to rebuild this team from the kiffin debacle, DD is doing the job. a new coach will set us back another 5 years... is that what ya want??

i'll just say i disagree. if being 6-6 every year is good, then dooley is doing a great job.

Truth. Although so many ignorant people like to use this as some sort of excuse. The refs got it right both times.

Every play is subject to review, even the last play of the game.

And the UNC loss was chalked up to an unfortunate rule. But still a valid loss.

I just don't get this blind loyalty and love affair some seem to have with Dooley. He has not won a single big conference game since arriving here. His teams seem to consistently implode in the second half of big games. In the over all scope of the SEC, his recruiting has been mediocre at best. He never played at UT. I just don't get it. At least in the final years of Fulmer's run I could understand some people's loyalty even if I did not agree with it. Fulmer won big games, SEC championships, and even a national championship. Dooley has done nothing but disappoint. For those about to scream "Give him time!" you cannot honestly have faith that Dooley can accomplish anywhere near what Fulmer did.

The right head coach would hire a better recruiting staff that would in turn bring in better talent and make us more competitive. I don't think we could get a worse in game staff so that would have to improve and the same goes for team attitude as few head coaches tolerate this quitting in the third quarter nonsense. The worst thing the UTK program can do is stay the course, assuming that the goal is to win football games.

Some truth to that. Don't forget he did beat Cincy last year and N. Carolina State this season. But, your point is well taken 0-11 against ranked teams isn't good rebuilding or not.

It's very simple: No matter who the coach is, either win and recruit at a high level or get the @#*&^! out, and we'll try somebody else until we find someone who can win, PERIOD !!! The bottom line is winning and Doolittle can't because he is a loser.

I am almost to your point of view. If he does not get a win in October and win bare minimum 8 games he should be fired. He had time and there is no improvement seen, if that indeed is how it plays out. Just from what I have seen it doesn't look promising with the possibility of beating Miss State. Granted, firing a coach isn't without its pain but, neither is a long term slide in program, if for whatever reason CDD can't win SEC games in October.

I don't think a new coach is coming in and right away bringing in top 5 classes. He will be a couple years behind on building those relationships.
