While there is serious discussion about these guys, I really think you should see if Donnie Tyndall can coach football. In my mind he's in that same mold.

Wow a Tyndall mention. Totally for got about that dude and when he coached here. He had that big boy assistant coach too. What a year

It's not the original hire that makes Fulmer and the athletic department look foolish...it was the extension. When hired, many (including me) thought that we had finally got what we needed, a football coach that could develop our talent and a top-notch recruiter. We had signs that we were wrong, but chose to overlook them in hopes that Pruitt was learning and wouldn't make the same mistakes over and over. We were wrong. But, we're just the Monday morning QB's looking at our team. The folks who get paid, and paid well, to take care of the team and look at it through very clear lenses did not do their job. Thus, the extension that has tied us to the wrong man for the next 3 years (money wise). The only question that remains is will those same people wipe their lenses, get out of CYA mode and make the hard decisions that will allow TN to at least begin to build again.

Gotta get this narrative that Fulmer is the one making the call out of your minds. It's not Fulmer's call. Nor is the next head coach if we go that route. I guess people automatically assume the AD is the one doing this but he's a glorified PR person. Fulmer WILL NOT make the call on Coach Gomer. Nor whether or not we get Hugh Freeze. As long as he wants HIS paychecks to keep coming he will play along and dance when they tell him to dance.

It seems the deciding factor historically that has led to coaching changes at Tennessee is when the team shows a lack of effort and that there are signs that they flat out quit on the coaching staff. Dooley and Butch both got fired because their teams flat out quit.

I’ve heard several in the media say- ‘yeah Tennessee looked horrible but the effort was there and they didn’t show signs of quitting during the game.’

My concern is this:
If we know the game has changed fundamentally now that players can enter the transfer portal virtually at will and there is nothing a coaching staff can do about it; does that change the effectiveness of measuring when a team quits on the field?

My point: Rather than players being vocally disgruntled about bad coaching or an unhealthy locker room situation; what if players today just suck it up knowing they can transfer at will? Does that mean Phil Fulmer is I danger of waiting for a mass exodus of players which is too late?

CJP had two big things fall against him this year.
1) He thought that coaches could coach (much like our school systems thinks that with a teaching degree you can teach any subject regardless of subject competency) He hired recruiters thinking they could coach too. Based on firing a DLine coach in-season he now knows better, assuming CJP's retained I'll bet during every introduction presser there will be no mention of recruiting but how many players the coach has sent to the NFL. My over under for new coaches is 3.5
2) He lost his S&C coach and thought there was enough enertia with the remaining staff to keep things rolling. I think our second half collapses were heavily influenced by our conditioning.....or lack of it.

BTW, I've looked back 4 years to see who some of the geniuses on this board thought we should have hired.....most of those guys are now looking for jobs.....while collecting huge buyouts.. and some of those same geniuses predicted Brian Kelly was out at ND.....

This.......Im wondering if he's a goner, especially after the post yesterday about him saying he'd rather go back to a coordinator than deal with this. Im wondering if Fulmer is letting him finish out the season and they're parting ways Sunday. Would explain why Pruitt has checked out in his media interviews, Freeze is out of the discussion at USCe and Auburn (but should be a #1 pick), and recruits are delaying or de committing like crazy all the
sudden.

Hoping that Fulmer has freeze on the hook and introduces him Monday morning. 🙏

I’ve been thinking along these same lines. We can only hope.

If they allowed Bruce Pearl back into the conference, I don’t know how they can’t allow Hugh Freeze.

The only thing Pearl did was lie about a cookout, which was absurd...Given a 3-year show cause for his punishment was even more absurd...Compare that to Freeze...LOL

There was an article that said that is no longer true since Ole Miss is no longer on probation.

I believe Freeze still has to complete the Saban Staff Rehabilitation Program (aka the Saban Dip), no?

They were both “show cause” infractions and both served their time. Anything beyond that is subjective.

Fulmer knows he will look bad because his main hire as AD turned out to be a dud

Fulmer is old and wise enough to know that bad decisions only get worse with time.

If the hire looks bad now, imagine how much worse it will look in a year.
