But his is a name that shall never more be spoken of in my household. No ill-wishes, no well-wishes. We never knew you, apparently.

All the platitudes about family, brotherhood and VFL were empty. This is the new reality of College Football.

Love the Orange, and those who prove that they love the Orange, not the green.

Cannot wait to see JM write a new chapter.

Go Big Orange.

I for one, want to see him fail and fall hard. Nothing personal to him but for the good of college football, in the current craziness that is NIL, someone needs to be a highlight story of why you dont do what he did.

I know this wont be a popular take here and I dont mind guys getting what the market will pay but you do not do what he did. I hope his name will become a watchword whispered in high school and college locker rooms everywhere as an object lesson of FAFO and what not to do.

I dont hate on Nico at all. He likely just has some bad advice from those close to him and I really REALLY wish he had worked out here. But if he is able to ditch in the way that he did and go somewhere else for $4m and light it up (just dont believe that will happen this year no matter what), then the economics of NIL begins to really start running away at a level even beyond the insanity it now is. People need to see that a price must be paid for that kind of behavior. Sorry it is him and us.

Amen. The more hype, the more publicity on Benedict Arnold, the more the left flock to him. Turn the page.

Nah I'm with you on that 100%. I hope it's a crash and burn moment. Milking us for actual millions, having us go to war with NCAA for you, and you want to wheel around and pull a stunt like this?

I hope he doesn't get picked up by any power 4 school and instead has to settle for North Dakota State Technical Community College with an NIL bonus of free gas tokens at exclusive participating locations on campus.

Poetic justice would be if UCLA had initially offered him $4 million but, after seeing all of this unfold, decide to drop it to $2 million or less and that's the best offer he gets.

Kind of a crazy, unnecessary way to go out. There has to be more to it. I feel like it hurt him more than us. Not like we were gonna win the NC next year. Prob win 8-9 games with Merk.

I do blame him because yes, he had agents and grifters around him giving him bad advice, but he suited up and played, practiced with the team for 2 1/2 years...How do you turn your back on your team and coaches like he did? In a way I'm glad he's gone because no way a guy like Nico is giving you everything he has in a game

Sounds like a cool story but, even if Nico fails miserably, it likely doesn't matter. The landscape of NIL, revenue-sharing, contract structures, recruiting calendar, etc, are changing by the year. The damage has been done. Tennessee is left out to dry and regardless of how Nico turns out, coaches, fans, and even players (who don't want to ne a teamate in this type of situation), will campaign for change. What Nico is doing probably will be a folk lore story. Even the NFL which has free agency doesn't allow you to just sign another contract when you have an existing one that hasn't been terminated.

The sad truth is that he probably already knows where he’s going and how much they are paying. You’d have a hard time making me believe he wasn’t contacted and meddled with…or it was done through family.

NIL and the TP had irreparably damaged college football for me. These situations are going to become the norm. And it says just as much about the quality and character of the athletes as it does about many of the programs.
