Not Impressed

Our play calling is suspect. The real match up was our running backs (or tight ends) against the NC State linebackers; we failed to exploit this advantage. We should have beat this team by 3 touchdowns.

Initially, I thought that we would have 10 wins this season; now, I say that we will be lucky to win 8.

We have the players, we just don't have the ability to exploit opportunities...and that is coaching.

I'm always amazed when I read the postings here to find that some people are ALWAYS negative....They always find something dark even in the most silver of linings...No game is going to be perfect but this was a great start to the season.....Enjoy it man instead of complaining!

I have been a Dooley hater at times. I've always wanted him to succeed but never believed in him. Last night was easily the biggest win at UT since we beat UGA with Lane Kiffin as HC. I will say we should have beaten them worse, like 40-14, but there is no way in hell anyone can complain about that win last night.

most improvement is usually seen between 1st and 2nd game. We'll see what happens.

There is some truth to the suspect play calling. Early on we had 3rd and 1 and threw the ball - incomplete pass. Chaney has got to learn to put the fullback in and tell people we are going to run it over you for at least 1 yard. All this talk about being physical, yet we are throwing the ball on 3rd and short. To win championships, and isn't that what this is really all about, you have to play smashmouth football when down and distance dictates.

If bray could have gotten the ball about 1" further before dropping it we would have won by 3 TDs...

My read was that the offense was pretty solid--as expected.

The defense played better than I expected.

It's early, but I'm more optimistic about the season now than I was before the game.

CDD's future hinges on this season.... if he can pull out 9 or 10 wins, he may be the guy who turns the program around.

From a coaching standpoint, you have to tip your hat a bit to him. He held/put this staff together without losing the last recruiting class--and overall, the players looked as though they were pretty well coached, especially for an opener.

Just saying... I try to be objective--and sometimes objective is more negative. This time, it's positive.

Great start, Vols! :hi:

when over 500 yards of offense is not enough. lol

the only problem we had was scoring touchdowns in the redzone...we do that, and we do win by 3-4 touchdowns

This plus 3 blown defensive covers that will be corrected and it would have been more like 6 - 7 TDs.

I do agree some of the play calling was crazy but just shut up and enjoy the win.

Do you really think our coaches wan't Florida so see our whole playbook b4 we play them? You saw no fade routes in the end zone minimal use of the tight ends and only a small selections of running plays. Use you brains man these first two games are gonna be as minimal as possible. Next week I fully expect to see more of the same. Vertical passing and dive plays, just gotta make sure coach JG get those guys running straight ahead and not east/west.

500+ yards of offense...

I don't get the playcalling complaints. Maybe we called different plays from what you would have called, but until you call a game that yields that much yardage, perhaps a tip of the hat would do.

The defense will gel, and our coverage will be fine. With the offense, it's just breaking in the new starters like Antonio Richardson. My only other criticism of the offense, beside marlin lane, we need to run North-South. We did very good on the ground, when we put in Bartholomew. We did pound it down their throat at a few points in the game. I am very impressed, and we will win this year.

I hate to tell you but play calling is only part of it. Execution in football is more important than play calling. In the SEC, the way we played tonight on defense, we'll be just fine. Our offense will make enough plays to put points on the board. Secondary get their kinks worked out and we'll be damn good. No need to worry about play calling tonight. Thanks for your time in the Marine Core.
