not impressed with Shoop

so far.
Watched the Appy St. game again. Our defense cannot tackle. That is basic. They were running over us and around us.
How much are they paying this guy?.

Hey ice, chill out. Did Appy St. score in the second half? Shoop was not gonna show everything in the first game. Against VT, i bet you gonna see alot of blitzes. UT will bring the heat.

Let's see. We held them scoreless the last 38 minutes. Granted, they missed a field goal late in the fourth quarter but defensive play is the least of our worries.

If we only give up 13 points a game, we will be ranked as one of the top defensive teams in the country.

We shut APP St down in the 2nd half. It is good to see halftime adjustments taking place again.

You did mean to type with a blue font, no???

Couch coaches or not, anyone with a brain knows DEs are not built for covering RBs trying to catch a pass. Main reason I am not a big fan of the 4-2-5.

This happens in EVERY defensive scheme occasionally especially with a blitzing, stunting defense that he runs...when you loop your backers and blitz off the corner...occasionally, not often, the DE will be responsible for under coverage, mostly on wheel routes which is what we got burned on if memory serves me...It may not happen again this year or it may happen every game...I doubt it though....

There was good and bad defensively. I agree that a combination of underestimating the opponent and overestimating themselves contributed most to this near disaster, but I've heard the same excuses over and over in this thread. The ejection...a defense that has touted itself as this one has shouldn't rise and fall on the strength of any one player. The muffed punt reception that "gave them" 7 of their 13. How does taking over on your opponent's 36 translate to an automatic touchdown? To be sure, our D held a talented, veteran offense to 13 points, and we won the game. But let's not make excuses for failures and pump more of the same sunshine that put the players' heads too high in the clouds to begin with.

Honestly this looked a little crappy in the first half but they buckled down when they needed to. We played like garbage but App State is legit. When they beat Miami everyone will recognize and after we win this weekend that game will be a distant memory. Shoop is legit

Hey some of you guys need to quit being ass clowns. Try being a smart ass with your Bama fans and quit clowning a UT fan who is just giving his opinion like the rest of us.

OP i am with you on this. When i hear a coach say no one will run on us and analysts pump him up pre season like he is the savior of our defense and then i see a lower tier team run on us like that I am like WTF!

And for any of you bottom feeders saying oh well it was first game or what ever ,,,,,,you need to go suck on your orange lolly pop in the corner because when you tell me this Defense will be stout I EXPECT IT TO BE STOUT!

And also played without one of if not the best LB's on the team in Maybin. Who flat out gets after it from sideline to sideline. Reads plays really well. Made adjustments at halftime. Offense put them in bad situations because they didn't move the ball.

Defense wasn't the problem last year. Butch is just buying time for he and debord to collect checks. As far as shoop, he figures he's got two years of employment w Butch whereas Franklin will be gone this year

dumb

How, or when will Tennessee fans be happy? Honest question. Shoop stopped an offense that is more like Air Force from scoring for 38 minutes, even third and Chavis couldn't stop that bleeding in 2006, the defense isn't/wasn't the issue last Thursday, it was the offensive line.

The fact that you asked your first question is a huge thing thats wrong with this fanbase.

In the first two games this year UT's defense has guven up 184 and 186 rushing yards. Thats not against Georgia and Alabama. Thats against Appalachian State and Virginia Tech.

Who gives a crap? They've also straight up shut teams down after a bit. We have a damn good D coordinator. The way our defense adjusted and dominated the game after the first quarter was impressive. Btw. VT is a better team that UGA.

Even if they dont it makes absolutely no difference. UT beat App State. However their season shakes out is irrelevant.

I see what your sayin, where i'm lookin at is how the nation views Vol opponents is in the formula of how credible the Vols appear. If Appy beats Miami they gain in credibility and so do our Vols.

Best coach we have had in ages. His adjustments are absolutely elite.

I can see why Butch targeted him, and the school paid up.

He is a good coach and I am glad he is our DC, however our starts have been bad. We have given up Hugh chunks of yardage. That seems to suggest his original game plan is suspect but his adjustments are first rate. Would very much like to marry the two.
