Lot of jumping on the OP (fair enough), but the poor tackling concerned me as well.

They buckled down in the 2nd half, as we all saw, and I expect them to be fine.

Seems poor tackling has been an issue since Chavis left, no matter the coordinator. :dunno:

How long have you known him, what about him do you not like? If you haven't known him or what he has done in the past, what you think about him is not very important. People who are more in the know, realize what a good coach he is.

When we first hired Shoop, he's an awesome DC. After the first game, he sucks as a DC. Our fanbase is ridiculous. Lol

They gave up 13 points, 7 of those after a special teams fumble game them a short field.

You're at a restaurant complaining about the small fingerprint on the bottom of your wine glass when there was a big dog turd in your soup.

Not to mention, ok I'll mention, JRM, our best hitter, was out and the defense pitched a shutout after he left! They stepped up!

Definitely worth a mention. JRM is our heart and soul out there on defense. Whether he gets the tackle or not he is wherever the ball is more times than not when the play stops. Very proud of our defense for stepping up without having their leader out there. Cam stepped up and took over the leader spot, but he still isn't the leader that JRM is.

13 points is very respectable, I agree we need to tackle better but Shoop is a proven winner on Defense. the Oline was the main problem - our D was on the field most of the game

I hope Peyton is never even considered for any type of coaching job at UT. He deserves so much better than having to take unnecessary bashing from a delusional fanbase such as ours.

Defense wasn't the problem last year. Butch is just buying time for he and debord to collect checks. As far as shoop, he figures he's got two years of employment w Butch whereas Franklin will be gone this year

When a defensive coach says we have to do a better job creating turnovers, I just cringe.. This almost always means we will suck at tackling because we are trying to pop the ball loose.

They averaged a little over 34 points a game last year. We held them to 13. The defense adjusted well in the second half and shut them out. It is the offense, if anything, that was not impressive.

It was a good, not great, defensive performance last week. If the Tennessee defense had held App to 7 or less in light of the muffed punt it would have turned in a great performance.

There's no reason to complain about a defense that gave up 2 touchdowns, one of which they had stopped the offense and then punt team gave the ball back to them with great field position.

If players executed on both sides of the ball consistently we would have made the playoffs last year.

New coordinator, had a solid plan without showing anything special. Bynum being lost on the drive after suttons drop was probably why they scored. The other was just a perfect counter call that exposes a defensive end in coverage, which should
Never happen. Corey, to his credit, recognized the play and tried to stop it. But outside of that, the play calling was fine.

A defense always looks worse when they are on the field most of the game.

Well said. I agree. I thought our kids played pretty solid D, considering that this was their first game playing a new Defensive scheme under a new D coordinator.
