Not good (involving Trey Smith)

Judging by your comments in this conversation I'll bet 50 you've never even been in an altercation such as this

I've never been in a fight where one person throws 20 punches and the other person never fought back, no.

Have I been in altercations? Yes

I guess because only a twinkle toes type sees this as anything other than a brief skirmish over a theft.
You're acting as if he bludgeoned him to death

More artistic license with my position...it's either a bludgeoning or nothing. You can't find the middle ground and that's your problem.

I think it's a minority point of view here that was Trey did was right or ok.

It's not ok.

All I have tried to say is in determining the appropriate punishment for the kid, I would take it under consideration that (IMO) he clearly made a choice to not cause great harm to the person he went after.

Now, maybe you disagree with that.

But, again, IMO, he had the other guy in a position where he could have done anything to him to really, really hurt him and he didn't do it.

You might disagree with that assessment.

But, a guy as large and powerful as Trey could have put him in the hospital had he wanted to. Yet, the guy walked away (because Trey allowed him to) and was relatively unharmed (and I think the video is proof of that).

So, you don't encourage that behavior. You don't accept that behavior. But, I think you acknowledge that he clearly restrained himself to a significant degree.

Geez guy wasn't even bleeding. He should not steal especially from a big 300 pound muscle bound giant. He's an idiot and a few of you are acting like little pusses. I teach my kids not to steal unless it's a base in baseball.

Someone needs to steal something from Trey every Friday before a game and pin it on the opposing team. I want to see him this angry on Saturdays.

#1 you don't know if he was bleeding or not.
#2 he can have brain damage (concussion) without any superficial cuts
#3 there is nothing conclusive in the video that shows the guy actually stole anything
#4 even if the guy stole something and said something about his mom, that doesn't give Trey any legal right to batter him.
#5 Trey continually battered the guy when his back is turned (defenseless)

Is Trey Smith yours? I'm a Tennessee fan, but that doesn't mean I am going to go to great lengths to defend the criminal actions of one of the players. Why would you?

I think 95% of fans would agree that this type of behavior is antithesis to Tennessee values. I'm glad there have been guys like Josh Dobbs, and very few player arrests under Coach Jones.

Would you consider players pressing charges against other players for defenseless hits to the head? Say a strong safety comes across and lays a WR out cold not watching...or heck a crack back block above the shoulders...the intent was to cause physical harm ..heck even knock the dude out cold...that would be considered battery in your mind?

I think you need to do a little research on Trey and you will find he is a good kid from a great family.
I also think you need to step back and realize how 18 yr olds handle their business, particularly when it comes to catching a theif.
Yes someday Trey will look back with the benefit of hindsight and wish he handled it differently. He is 18 dude. Get a grip talking about kicking him off the team...

Type of behavior? An 18 year old football player got into a altercation with another football player...would you rather they stand and exchange blows? The point is the majority of adult males on here would say if the kid he was hitting was unconscious on a sidewalk and trey was curb stomping or kicking him in the head there would be a different tone on this page. Dude took a dive on a hotel mattress! And had his hands covering his head. Get over it man.

Typical high school fight and nothing more. One guy left with a bruised ego, that's it. For the NCAA or law enforcement to pay this any attention would be a gross misuse of resources.

Good Lord, I don't even know why there's this stubborn thread throughout all of the posts regarding stealing something. Who cares why? Maybe he got too much of the pizza or something.

Criminal actions? Two seventeen year olds have a little fisticuffs going on and you want to call in the swat team.

Where did your pansy azz grow up? You're an English teacher, right? Social studies?

Two high school kids got into a fight. Somebody recorded it, and as is the custom of our times, uploaded it somewhere.

Did you ever get into a fight when you were a youngster? Holy crap!

1. Shot of him as he runs out the door showed no cuts or blood.

2. Can't tell if he is brain damaged afterwards because he has signed with Ole Miss.

3. Video shows he was able to steal his own life back so he did steal that.

4. When I was involved in a fight (which was against guys who bullied others ) or saw a fight, legalities were never part of the discussion.

5. He turned his own back to him to in self perservation.

Oh and number 6., You seem to really be a sweet little man. :ermm:
