I think this was what Tyndall was referring to and in simple summary, a person who does not follow moral guidelines that are common to most people...
thug
member of a well-organized confederacy of professional assassins who traveled in gangs throughout India for several hundred years. (The earliest authenticated mention of the thugs is found in Ziya'-ud-Din Barani, History of Firuz Shah, dated about 1356.) The thugs would insinuate themselves into the confidence of wayfarers and, when a favourable opportunity presented itself, strangle them by throwing a handkerchief or noose around their necks. They then plundered and buried them. All this was done according to certain ancient and rigidly prescribed forms and after the performance of special religious rites, in which the consecration of the pickax and the sacrifice of sugar formed a prominent part. Although the thugs traced their origin to seven Muslim tribes, Hindus appear to have been associated with them at an early period; at any rate, their religious creed and practices as worshipers of Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction, showed no influence of Islam. The fraternity possessed a jargon of its own (Ramasi) and signs by which its members recognized each other.
Really?
Which is worse.....Cracker or Gringo?
Serious question here.
The Richard Sherman incident brought this term to the forefront of the sporting world's consciousness. In fact, Sherman wrote an article about it in the MMQB
Richard Sherman Explains What People Mean When They Call Him A "Thug"
Sherman--and most of the African American community and most of pundents--came to the conclusion that "thug" is the new "n-word."
Now: Is Tyndall a purposeful racist? I don't think so. I don't think most of the people that use "Thug" consider themselves racist. In fact, I know they don't.
Yet, it is mostly considered a racist term by African Americans. So, I'm not sure what to make of that, but it's something I noticed and cringed at when I heard him say it.
Thoughts?
Go Vals!
It's a legitimate debate. It was HUGE issue not even three months ago. I have a link to Richard Sherman talking about it.
I think it's a fair discussion. If you'd not like to join it, that's fine, but I think it's interesting. I'm interested in other opinions.
Living in Florida... well north of Miami, I do not hear Gringo much. I do hear cracker, and it is NEVER said with anything resembling nice. It is ALWAYS derogatory and insulting. I guess when one group can use the "N" word with impunity, and another cannot, yet that first group can use a clearly intentional racist term with no implications, I am disgusted by the double standard. Talk among yourselves.
I"ve been making fun of this conversation for awhile, but today I saw the light. Had a high school coach tell me today that his players are comparing Coach Tyndall to the idiot that owns the Clippers. SMDH. How recruits get this stuff in their head is beyond me, but I admit I thought it was much ado about nothing.
I've seen BYU make deep runs with a homogeous roster. Tyndall doesn't have to do anything but sign the best players who want to come play for the Vols.folks, the reason it is an issue is because our coach has to convince 17 and 18 yr old members of the offended group along with their families in order to have a successful program. Recruiting is all about sucking up and walking on eggshells and making people believe you are wonderful and madly in love with them.
is the charge fair?
No.
but I a want a coach who is so smooth as a fox that he could convince chickens to hire him as a security guard for the chicken coop.

You and I, lawyers. Me, a weirdo 10er who doesn't live in a state where I have to support stupidity to earn a living. Let's war and be done with it.Have you looked at the Top 200. Other than taller than most folks, what else do the most of them have in common? And from Trayvon to Sherman to Sterling, a large percentage of them and their families seem to believe that white America is filled with racism. If you criticize Obama you're a racist. If you oppose affirmative action you're a racist.
The truth is not important. Perception is.
I want the top recruits period. Whatever it takes.
Oh, and black callers still scream racism on the Sports Animal and bring up Cuonzo. I wish people would quit being ostriches and realize we are having to sell our product to a market that looks at things a lot differently than most of the Volnation posters do.
