I have to confess, I'm not even entirely sure what has happened today. Did we actually hire Shiano? Is it official?

While part of me hopes this is part of the "smokescreen" and wants to believe this is part of the plot Beaver mentioned to "make Currie look like a hero" the sad fact is everything about this is so embarrassing not even Gruden can fix it now. And why the hell do we need a smokescreen? This isn't freaking Game of Thrones.

Either keep it completely on lockdown or put the leaks out through normal channels and let Gruden take his time and approach the podium with pomp and circumstance it deserves.

Totally out of control. A complete farce now that not even Gruden can fix. Everyone from Bill Haslem to the freaking guy who held the trash can should be fired immediately. I'm out.

Nah, Eddie, that's wrong.

If John Currie walked up to the podium Tuesday, smiled at the camera, at us, and said "Gotcha! Told you not to listen to anyone but me," right before introducing Jon Gruden as our next head coach, all would be forgiven.

100%, totally, completely forgiven. I can take a joke, even a stupid one.

In my opinion, Gruden caused all this. At least thats my working assumption. If he truly turned down 10 million to coach at UT, then we have a bigger problem that I thought. This is just the free-fall from the initial rejection.

Same thing happened in our last two hires.

Yes. If someone actually turned down $10 million a year to coach we are done. Permanent irrelevancy is where we’re going. Been there for 10 years now it’s permanent. Very sad. I’ve been a Vol fan for 55 years.

Nope. This is all on Currie. First, he let the rumor mill go nuts onGruden. He should have shut it down immediately once he knew it wasn't happening. His next mistake.....my assumption...is that he got all this positive feedback from the big names and assumed he'd be able to sign one of them when in reality he was being played/used for a nice raise. He simply does not and did not know how this game is played. He got used. He came out with that bs line about an expensive and explosive hire. All this is at his feet. He's already a damned monumental failure. I'd fire his ass right now if I could. Ashamed and embarrassed to have a degree from this pathetic excuse for a university.

The smokescreen theory is assamine. He didn’t need smokescreens to be a hero if he hired the right coach period. Currie needs to be fired immediately.

You idiots have gotten exactly what you deserve.

Jon Gruden will not coach at UT. he's either going to be in the NFL or on TV. he has enough money and throwing more cash at him isn't going to change that.

Once you have money you realize that your time and family is more important than more money.

Tennessee isn't the job you all want it to be. Florida, UCLA, Ta&m are better/easier jobs. It didn't really matter who they hired you'd whine and cry about it just like you are now.

the absurd fan base is going to drive away any quality coach the did try to bring in here.

Who makes the statements today? I think everyone from Governor Haslam to the pleb who had trash can duty for GT should be gone.

Currie cannot have a job today.

Davenport should be gone for hiring the guy.

I hope they roll out Phil and Peyton to announce the Herculean labor of cleaning this mess up. It starts with basically firing everyone from Gov Bill to trash can man.

Probably should have saw this coming the way we held onto Butch. Currie was giving Butch every chance to hold on to the job if he could somehow manage 6 wins. When that was no longer possible then he had to let him go.
People thought it wouldn't be about money this time well I think that is going to be wrong. Were still trying to get a 2.5 million a year up and comer or someone with no buyout that hopefully come in here and win 8 a season.
