Not Confident Vs. Houston.

I dunno. I think having a lot of different pieces that we didn't have before might keep us from having the huge scoring droughts. We might play a lot of people, and perhaps play Ament more strategically than usual.

I could be wrong, but I think we are now positioned better to play toe-to-toe with the likes of Houston now.
I really hope the game plan is go inside early and that we can execute on it.

I can see Houston forcing Ament and Gillespie into taking contested shots early on.

One team puts the ball in the hoop more than the other team. Pretty sure fire way to win
Not always the case. You can make more shots overall but if the other team makes a lot of threes to makeup the difference then you can definitely lose. Illinois made more shots vs Alabama and lost.

I like our group of guys, but it is still going to take some time to find the best mix of guys, that all understand their roles on the court and gel well together. I saw a step forward at times against Rice.

Beating Houston may not happen, but shouldn't be too concerning. This is a team that should gradually improve over the course of the season and hopefully be peaking by the time March rolls around.

This. Just happy to have a real test to see how this group handles it, but expecting to beat a Final Four ready team like Houston this early with a group of guys who are still getting to know one another and rotations not even set might be asking too much.

Like the Duke game, it's about seeing where you are progress-wise right now and fine-tuning the rotation and minutes. As someone said earlier, win in March and peak in April - that is the goal that really matters.

I just wish that some people who start threads like this would think for a second before hitting 'send'.

Not sure if the score will be that high ….. Houston is going be a big problem , I think they deserve be number one . We have to rebound basketball n hit our free throws to have chance

Yeah,it's going to be a grind it out type game because that's Sampsons style. It will probably be in the 50s no matter who wins. Barnes teams have also had lock down defense in years past. I think Houston pulls this one out,but it will be interesting.

To me it seems we have gotten better as a team since playing Duke. I felt we didn’t have an identity as a team in that exhibition. It will be a tough game against Houston but if we lose at least playing against good teams help you get better.

A win is always wanted, but early season games like this it's more important imo to get the experience to gear up for the conference schedule and get battle tested. A hard fought close loss, while not as good as a W is still very valuable.

As long as we aren't blown out I think the game is a positive regardless.

Houston currently shooting 6-10 from 3 (60%), but only 8-22 overall (36%). Odd split for them. Only up 3on 'Cuse with 3:00 to play in 1st half.
Partly because Syracuse is horrendous from the line. I'd prefer the refs call the games this close all tournament given Vols depth and get Houston in foul trouble with their aggressive D.

Houston isn't Great, just faster than most. Refs let em be aggressive and get away with it, we gotta hit our shots and Old School BOX OUT

They’re Houston good for sure but other than Uzan have some young guards. Key is the Box Out, like you said but also shot making. And if Gillespie gets in the ball park of hot like he was today yeah buddy!. As far as bigs, I’m gonna expect our bigs to be able to compete against most squads all year. Gonna be a good one but after today like UTs chances way better. So the jinx is firmly in place.
