I remember watching the Outback bowl back in 1993 when we played Boston College. We started the game with Heath Shuler throwing a long pass for 50+ yards. We easily dominated the game from start to finish.

Sometime during the game, the camera showed Fulmer on the sidelines with a jovial smile talking with some of the players and coaches. The color guy (I can't remember who it was) suddenly said "Coach Fulmer is having fun. You know it is not always going to be this easy". This guy said this with a hint of animosity.

Anyway, fast forward to today. You never see Fulmer smile anymore. I would say this guys premonition about things not always being easy has definately played out.

Wins of any sort are not coming easy these days.
Man, in football I wish it was 1993 again, or any year in the 1990's for that matter.

The student body is fed up. You hear it between classes and during classes every day. We need a new RB, we need a new QB, we need a new coach. Students are now paying for tickets to watch a bad team. Our Vols are not even mediocre any more. We are just bad. Its frustrating to hear your fiancee say your vols suck, when you know what the problems are and know that your coach is just too stuborn to address it. Sometimes I wonder if the open QB job is just lip service to make people shut up. Urban Meyer smiles, Nick Saban even smiled Saturday night after beating Georgia. Mark Richt smiles when beating Florida. Tommy Tuberville smiles. Bobby Johnson has been smiling for crying out loud. These coaches know what they need to do to win and are willing to do those things. Fulmer is too concerned with just working like heck and getting a hat on a hat each day in practice to get ready for a tough "insert team name" team who has some special players. We hear the same thing week after week, and see the same results week after week. Fulmer is not wanting to change from what got him the national championship in 1998. Most of the guys playing today were 10 when tennessee won the NC, and probably committed to UT to help get the program back to that level. The fact that we have to get our program back to that level is cause for concern. Im not saying we have to be in the top five every week every year, but hanging in the top 25 would certainly be nice, because at least then you have put yourself in a position to win. When you are ranked, your only a couple of Oregon State wins away from being number 1 or 2, as Alabama has proven after starting the season at 22. What is so much different? Why can our higher ups not realize this??? It would be unreasonable to say that we want an SECC every year, but would it be unreasonable to say we want to be competitive for an East crown every year??? Mike Hamilton needs to decide if the upgrades will bring the fans, or if the teams performance will fund the upgrades.

Yeah and hes causing me to not have any fun. Hell hes causing the whole state to not have fun. CPF please retire so we can become a great program again you are a cancer to our team.

The team that played in the HOF bowl was not the same team that plated at the end of the '92 season. A change was needed, and it showed.

On a side note, I'm getting really tired of the pro Majors posters on here using our present struggles as a way to somehow prove that Majors was done wrong. It was time for him to go then, just like it's time for Fulmer to go now. It happens. Majors seems to be popping up everywhere in the Knoxville media lately, and I'm sure he's getting a good laugh, but that doesn't help this program win one game.

majors wasn't doing a horrible job at ut when he was fired. he was just shown up by fulmer.

Just like one of the posters said.....he looks constipated all the time..........he is making me have an ulcer........:banghead2:

They were wallowing in mediocrity, and Fulmer came in, they beat 2 teams they shouldn't have, and it was considered a breath of fresh air. He wasn't exactly tearing it up as a coach. It was time for him to go, just like it's Fulmer's time. One does not justify the other.

Yeah, that is what I don't understand. What is different? Well one thing is Cutcliffe. When he leaves things go to hell fast. I guess he was the heart and soul of the coaches?
I don't think our current team is as talented as 98 but they sure should be more competative than they are now.
I don't know what to think anymore.:frown:
