Not a single Herbie goes to a Vol this year...

Who cares what a mediocre QB from OSU who is only on ESPN because he's from OSU thinks? Matt Simms might be a better QB than Herbstreit was, and the fact he gets all this fluff from ESPN is a joke. Replace him with a hot young female reporter and I'd have more respect for ESPN than keeping this so-called "expert" on the channel.

That whole list is bogus, starting with TR behind LG as the best running back. He doesn't deserve to inhabit the great state of Tennessee, he should go back to Ohio. That article is a fail.

There's nothing wrong with Herbstreit.

I actually enjoy Herbie. However with the award list for pre-season IMO the only chance to be on a list like this would be Malik Jackson. But, he is also just really coming into this role full time this season. So, no real surprise here for me either.

In two years, LaDarrell McNeil will be on the Hardest Hitters list.
Anyone who's seen hit recruiting video knows this.

For those surprised, who did you think would make the list?

Malik Jackson on the DL possibly.
But as good as he is, he's still not considered THE best DT in the SEC, let alone the country.

Bray as the sleeper, but the argument can be (and has been) made that he only put up gawdy numbers against mediocre at best defenses.

But I'm not surprised we're not represented. We're still a year or two away from being really talked about.

Exactly. He is EASILY one of the better analysts in college football. He forgot more about the game than 95% of the posters in this forum know about it.

I don't know what some of our fans are thinking. It will be an accomplishment for the Vols to win more than two conference games this year. We play a brutal conference schedule and we are still thin at key positions. Probable losses are to Florida, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina

Q: What's the difference between Herbies and Herpes?
A: One's an incurable disease. The other can be treated with steroids.

Until we win 9+ games and until a true star merges, we shouldn't be on any lists.

Next year, Bray, Hunter, Rogers, J. smith, Brewer all could be mentioned with a good year this year.

Until we are in the conversation for the SECe though, aren't going to be on ESPN preseason award lists.

Kirk herbstreit is a very good analyst in my opinion, sure he may have played for the buckeyes, but his dad played there too so I'm sure there was some pressure from him to play there also. He calls the games down the middle as good as anybody. He is definitely not a homer heck the osu fan base drove him out of ohio because he didnt give osu enough praise on game day. So I am proud to have one of the best commentators in the game live in my home state of tennessee!
Gbo!

I'm unsure of the hate for Herbie/ESPN because of this, whom exactly did you expect to be nominated?

If anything, Herbstreit is one of the only genuine personalities ESPN has.
