Everyone loves CJH and his attitude, myself included. However, we can’t be afraid to criticize him when it’s called for. This was one of the worst coaching performances I have seen. CJH made Fulmer look like a genius tonight. Just horrible play calling. Kept trying to run when it wasn’t there or threw deep when Hooker wasn’t hitting anything. Where where the short passes? Losing this game is a disgrace. We had no business losing to Purdue and should have won easily. This is as embarrassing as losing to Maryland in 2003. Just an awful coaching performance on both sides of the ball. I know HH had a bad game but this is squarely on Heupel shoulders. A classic case of playing down to the competition and losing when victory was assured.

We rushed for 288 yards so the run game was there.

I’m not gonna beat up coach heupel or whine about the refs but I’m very disappointed and will have a bitter taste in my mouth until next season

A L is a L.
Hope everyone learned from it. Had a blast this season with only the GA game live.
Super “Hyped” for 22.

Reminds me of the Pitt game. Missed opportunities all over the place. Monstrous amount of penalties. Of course, I don’t recall us being this bad in the defensive secondary (and overall on D) against Pitt, but maybe it’s recency bias kicking-in.

In the end, a better record than I expected (I thought we’d struggle to win 5 games). Regardless, not a good way to end things. Trying two deep passes instead of running two plays to set up a closer try at the game-winning FG in regulation seems like it was a bad call - but then again, how many open receivers did we badly miss running deep behind their DBs in this game? It felt like Milton was back at QB.

With Alontae out, it looked like we forgot how to cover in the secondary. Some bad tackling — Like really, really bad tackling in quite a few spots. Lining up and not having the strength to convert 4th and shorts. Penalties. Penalties. Penalties.

Winners win … and losers lose. We are still a team that finds ways to lose when the spotlight is on and we have a chance to send a message about our trajectory as a program in front of a national audience. Just like all the announcers talked about was how “depleted” Purdue was (while pretty much ignoring our shortage of scholarship players and our key players that were out), all that anyone is going remember is that we found a way to lose again. Not that the officials missed a blatant PI at the end of regulation or that the official made a terrible call to take our TD off the board in OT.

It was a tough night. I still think Heupel is a good one, but tonight was not even close to good. Never should have been in a position to let bad officiating to sway the outcome. A pretty deflating way to end things this year. No one should be ok with this performance, but I’m hoping to see something better next season.

You assume every play was 100% dictated by CJH. A read option could be a brilliant play that is horribly executed by the QB. This is just one example.

378 yards, 5 tds, 0 INTs. How quickly we have became spoiled.

Ok I have calmed down a bit. I’m especially disappointed because we lost to Purdue again. My best friend is a Purdue grad and we lost on a bad call in bball a few years ago and just lost in football on a questionable call. Now I have to wear a Purdue shirt for a week. I just feel that we are a better team than Purdue and had no business losing to them. We GAVE that game away.

Some of y’all are incapable of understanding that play calling isn’t the sole determinant of a football game’s outcome. And you can’t resist displaying that ignorance as often as possible.

Further, the distinction between execution and play calling is as elusive to you as Colton Jumper trying to tackle Barry Sanders.

But I do hold Heupel accountable for the last minute of regulation. Poor clock management and trying to throw the ball long instead of trying to get enough yardage for a make-able FG. It wasn’t his best day as a coach. He had a high probability of winning at the end but let too much time expire and kept trying to throw long TDs vs getting 15 yards and kicking a manageable FG. Defense was awful which cost us the game but CJH still had a chance to win at the end.

Sorry. Still don’t think the play calling was appropriate in final minute of regulation. You should always focus on getting first downs with high percentage throws in the middle of the field. We wasted too much time trying to go for the home run multiple times instead of going for high % throws setting up an easier FG.

There were definitely things I didn’t agree with - like the usage of timeouts down the stretch, but you could say that about a lot of things over the course of any 60 minute game. The refs continually intervened during this game, not just at the end. To be a good team you must grind out wins on bad days. Hard to do that against the refs as well.
