'25 Northwestern Transfer OL Josh Thompson (LSU)

So the staff isn’t serious about winning because we lost out on a portal player?
Not the staff. Our NIL and maybe our administration. They aren’t willing to pay what’s needed. Seaton, Mauigoa, Thompson. We are pretty much the leader until somebody else swoops in and ups the offer and we we shrink. We see it time and again. Our NIL is not elite.

I know AP says that Tennessee likes their current OL room but based on the evidence of the last few years it is very hard to believe that
That’s just AP being a microphone for the staff. If they liked their room, why was IOL one of the biggest priorities as soon as we entered portal season. They lost this battle. No other way around it. But let’s not get it twisted that we love our current OL situation

I'm seeing a very similar situation to last year at this time. Several depth players and players from and underwhelming position group heading to the portal and the same group of posters having the same type of meltdown about our perceived lack of portal participation while other programs are out buying players left and right. Very similar comments about the state of our program and how we are not serious about being a championship contender. When the smoke cleared, we signed two solid TEs, an All SEC CB, improved our quality of secondary depth and made the playoffs.
‼️

Thompson was not a NFL talent we just didn't bid on good player yes who would battle for starting position. Some may want us to have unending pockets in NiL because once you overpay for players you start overpaying for rest. Vegas over under our win total will not change because we didn't over pay. In CHRIST Alone

We need players plain and simple if we want to compete. Right now we are way below numbers for our roster. We are operating 2025 team as roster stands as a team on probation. We need to add about 10 to 15 players. Can’t keep losing way more than adding. For whatever reason we don’t seem to be ahead of this at all. You have to be lining these things up with targets through back channels months ago. Our support staff should be already working some of these. Florida looks like the team we should have for next year.

Sound like we wanted this guy. Made a great pitch to him, was going to land him then LSU came in with big money and we let him go. Not in love with that but we should be better/deeper next year or Elarbee should start polishing up his resume.

lol what would you expect them to say?

We’re really not all that pleased with what we’ve recruited and developed, but we didn’t want to spend that much for another guard…

You can like who you have but also see better talent in the portal. Feeling comfortable or optimistic about who you have doesn’t mean every guy is the best possible option. Also doesn’t hurt to bring more people in to compete.

You can feel good about a talented young sophomore but realize a senior with a proven track record would give you more of a safety net.

OSU took 7 transfers last year. 4 of them played meaningful snaps this season.

They didn’t take 14 like LSU has so far this cycle. Or 17 like FSU did last year. Or 26 like Ole Miss did last year.
And I think we’re 4 great players away from competing with them.

Give us Caleb downs , Jeremiah smith and their 2 OT’s and a healthy Sampson its a lot different of a game.

We are a few elite players away from the top. But those fee players cost millions and millions of dollars. We are closer than many people realize.

I do believe there are a couple they like that are developing. We can all just guess though.

I’ll be the first to run to the defense of CJH, he’s done a remarkable job. I doubt he’s refusing to go get top end talent. What is out NIL doing though? Concerning we’re taking contributors but we really haven’t hit a huge offensive transfer target yet since NIL. Some good players like Bru, Thornton, Kitsleman but nothing elite yet.

They ate our defense alive.
