I wasn't privy to any inside info beyond what is said here but wasn't the rumor that he wanted to bring his staff including Roper with him but UT didn't want the staff?

yes. but if they wanted him, they could have gotten him.

my only point was, he turned down the offer.

Charts looked like festive Christmas trees to me.

Hats off to OP for embracing the season.

Seriously, good work VFL.

I don't see this being a close game barring numerous mistakes by the Vols though.

OK. So an invitation, right?

First, if you aren't claiming to know more then how would you know enough to judge whether I "act" like I know more than I do? And then... How exactly does one "act" like they know more than they do? Where have I claimed to know more than I do? I have cited facts to support my opinions... but where have I claimed to be an "expert" at something I'm not?.

This really isn't hard to understand. You don't have to have more knowledge than somebody to see when they're putting on airs. I never said you claimed to be an expert. Just that you obviously think you know more than you actually do about football. The same can probably be said for almost all football fans. Some are just not so insufferable about it :eek:k:

Then again.... feel free to mind your own business.:hi:

This is a public board, dude. It's not like I'm eavesdropping in on you at a restaurant or barging into your house. I'll call you out if I want, necessary or unnecessary. You can kiss my :shaking2: if you don't like it.

It is certainly the best comparison they have. His best performance was against VT which is the ACC's number 11 rush D. Dobbs had 158 yds vs UF (w/out sacks) and 57 vs Bama w/out sacks for about a 5 ypc avg. I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that Dobbs ran less against weaker D's or else he probably would have rushed for over 1000 yds.

While it is their best comparison, I still don't think it is a very good one.

PS- I would love for them to scheme to stop Dobbs' running. Hurd and Kamara will have a field day.

The thing about it is that it can be misleading just to look at stats when comparing two players' performances. There are just so many more factors than you can glean from looking through stats and comparing opponents. There's the talent a player is surrounded by, their system, coaching, etc. If Dobbs had played against weaker defenses like Duke did this year, he might have had less rushing yards because we wouldn't have needed him to run the ball so much and we probably would have thrown the ball better.

Comparing stats and opponents is interesting and a lot of fun, but it's not always that productive.

Gotcha. I respect Cut all the way round. Oddly, they let the guys they ended up hiring choose their own staffs.

"Insufferable" has always been a funny word to me. In my experience, it usually reveals more about the person saying it than the person it's aimed at.

I know what I know. You aren't pointing to anything specific because you are reaching to justify some personal bias or frustration against me. That's fine... but don't lie. I have not claimed that I know more than I know.

The one truth here is that you think you know more about me than you actually do.

This is a public board, dude. It's not like I'm eavesdropping in on you at a restaurant or barging into your house. I'll call you out if I want, necessary or unnecessary. You can kiss my :shaking2: if you don't like it.
OK, whatever you say there tough guy.

Basically what we have here is that you don't like me or my posts and I've dared to disagree with you. So you've made a whole bunch of assumptions or fancy yourself a mindreader... and then called me out like an insufferable blowhard nonetheless.

So... you are now declaring that this is a public board where people can share their thoughts after condemning me for sharing my thoughts?

The thing about it is that it can be misleading just to look at stats when comparing two players' performances. There are just so many more factors than you can glean from looking through stats and comparing opponents.
But doing so is far better than making unqualified and poorly informed declarations. Well, I guess that depends on whether you want to limit what is said to what you want to hear or not.

But as mentioned, I've watched replays of NU because I wanted to make a fair comparison. From the start I praised them for playing good assignment D. But having watched them play, if UT executes and they execute... UT wins. They just don't have the athletes on D.

Comparing stats and opponents is interesting and a lot of fun, but it's not always that productive.

I enjoy it. Not sure that any of this is "productive". Just a pastime.

PS- why can't you engage me like these last couple of things instead of that other crap? It is supposed to be for fun, right?

Well I guess if you want examples, then this passage gives some great examples.

1. You usually speak with such certainty. This rhetorically arrogant and it's especially annoying when talking about the future or something like an upcoming football game. You write as if there is no possibility of you being wrong. The fact is that none of us know exactly how a game will shake out (even the coaches will admit this).

So it might just be that you're a bad writer and it's grating for me to have to read your longwinded posts. Either that or you're just very certain of everything you say. In my experience, people who speak with absolute certainty so often are usually full of it.

2. You accuse people of lying all the time. Like even when they're giving an opinion sometimes. It's hilarious in the worst way possible.

3. I never said you claimed to know more than you do. I said you act as if you have a greater understanding of football than you do. I'm sorry if you can't see the subtle difference in that.

You got one thing right here: I don't like you. 1/5 that's great for you sjt! :clapping:

So... you are now declaring that this is a public board where people can share their thoughts after condemning me for sharing my thoughts?

I never told you to butt out or mind your own business. I just called you annoying and said some around here wish you'd go away. Again, I understand that there's a subtlety between those things that must be difficult for you to understand, so I apologize :good!:

It might be health for you try to find a hobby. I hear parachute-less skydiving is a great thrill

Ugh, if it had been with anybody else, maybe. Now I feel like I need to go take a shower.

Anyway I'm bored now and I'll let you have this one, sjt :mf_surrender: I've got a busy day and week ahead and insulting you is time consuming. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal! :machgun:

1. You usually speak with such certainty.
Really? Prove it. When I cite stats or historical facts then, yes, I do so with certainty. But where do I express opinions and claim they're facts?

This rhetorically arrogant and it's especially annoying when talking about the future or something like an upcoming football game. You write as if there is no possibility of you being wrong. The fact is that none of us know exactly how a game will shake out (even the coaches will admit this).
Then show me. If I am actually doing this then I am not aware of it. If I can change it then I will. In complete and total honesty, I think you have expressed more arrogance and certainty in your condemnation of me in this thread than I have in my opinions.

So it might just be that you're a bad writer and it's grating for me to have to read your longwinded posts.
Who requires you to read them?

Either that or you're just very certain of everything you say. In my experience, people who speak with absolute certainty so often are usually full of it.
Or... your are absolutely full of it and are reading your biases into what I write because you disagree with me.

2. You accuse people of lying all the time. Like even when they're giving an opinion sometimes. It's hilarious in the worst way possible.
I am going to accuse YOU of lying here because I do NOT accuse people of lying "all the time". The times I can remember accusing people of "lying" are very similar to this instance when someone accuses me of something that is factually untrue... and they have every reason to know it.

FWIW, saying something is "false" is not the same as accusing someone of lying. It is only a lie if someone knows it to be untrue.

3. I never said you claimed to know more than you do. I said you act as if you have a greater understanding of football than you do. I'm sorry if you can't see the subtle difference in that.
I know what you're saying. Sorry if you didn't understand the "subtle" response that you can only assess that if you ASSUME that you know more than I do. If you DON'T know more than I do... then how exactly can you judge? And... you still haven't cited any evidence or an example of me acting as if I know more than I do.

You got one thing right here: I don't like you. 1/5 that's great for you sjt! :clapping:
Good for you... But I'm sure that doesn't bias you at all, right?

I never told you to butt out or mind your own business. I just called you annoying and said some around here wish you'd go away. Again, I understand that there's a subtlety between those things that must be difficult for you to understand, so I apologize :good!:
No. I said you should butt out rather than "arrogantly" assuming the role of board conscience. And I wasn't all that subtle. I'm sure there are some that find you annoying and wish you'd go away. I know this non-sense you've started here has started to make me feel that way.

I didn't feel that way before... but you've earned it by acting like an "insufferable blowhard"....

Gotta say... you've revealed a "classy side" that I didn't see before.

This is not a good match for Northwestern, esp losing a starting CB. That's the cost of winning those close games. However, they kept up with USC, Auburn, UCLA pretty tough in the past bowl games. The fact that UT played Alabama and Oklahoma and other good teams is scary. Just that the offense for NU isn't there like past teams. Hopefully it will be a close one, a respectable one, for this academically oriented school which has a 97% graduation rate, tops in the Big 10.

how tall are you sjt?

About 6'2".

Ask Darth... he seems to be the one that is intent on "knocking people" down to their size.... and assumes he knows what their size is.

I didn't do a thing to the guy. Never have unless you count disagreeing with him on a message board. He just butted in with his self-righteous corrections for no good reason. He then proceeded to tell me that I'm a bad person in various ways and that he doesn't like me... again... based on posts on a message board.
