So our next opponent is the Huskies. They've been decent in recent years with players like Michael Turner and Garret Wolfe. Looking at what they've done this year, they may actually present a challenge. They were actually on top of Minnesota until the Gophers managed to score with 20 seconds left in the game. Minnesota isn't a superpower, but they are 4-1 with the lone loss coming to Ohio State.

It wouldn't shock me at this point to see this team come out fired up and the Vols come out flat. If so, this game will end up closer than it should be.

Nothing would surprise me anymore. They may beat us.

NIU won 2 games last year.

They've outscored their last 2 opponents 85-3.

I think we come out flat and they come out fired up. Wouldn't be surprised to have a very tight game at halftime. I'll say Tennessee will win by no more than 17 points.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to lose to the Huskies. There will be no home-field advantage or crowd noise to worry about. If they come in and stick it to us early, this team could just quit and NIU will take their nice check back home with a W.

If we lose next week the team will for sure quit. If we lose, we'll be lucky to win 3 games for the whole year.

85-3 wow..It must be nice to have a QB put up some points.

We should be able to line up and beat them with Foster, Hardesty, and Creer. However, I think we'll be trying to get a new QB ready so we'll probably pass more than we should.

Just by showing up, UT should beat NIU easily. They don't have the same talent.

agreed. i know it sounds sad to say this, but the huskies will be no pushover

It's time to not only look at the QB position, but every single position on offense. There are two playmakers out there, Hardesty and G. Jones. Other than that, nobody has done anything all year. It's time to make it an entire open competition at practice and let the best players play, regardless of class rank. Not that these coaches will get the best players the ball (B. Warren), but it's time to put the best players out there regardless.

I think Stephens will play, but he won't get nearly as much playing time as he should. All that will end up happening is Crompton will start and fall on his face, then Stephens will get a chance to come in and if he doesn't do well, Fulmer will stick with Crompton because "he has more experience and gives us the better chance".

i go to niu. they have a decent run game, but meco brown got hurt. they have fairly good back up in justin anderson and montel clanton. on the defensive side of ball watch out for larry english. he's a huge mlb that can bust through a line and knock the crap out of the qb. i'll be at the game with my dad and gf(who also goes to niu). my dads from tn so i've been a vol fan since i could remember. i'll be there rooting on the vols. it'll be weird having a vested interest in both schools i hope the vols win and i'll be cheering for them and just hoping niu doesn't get killed. oh forgot to mention niu runs something similar to the g-gun. they bring in a back up qb demarcus grady who has some speed and can run. the starting qb that started against minn is hurt and the qb the last couple weeks has been dan nicholson who is a decent pocket passer and isn't fast but can scramble. i wish the vols had a better record so it'd be a better experience for our first time there. any way go vols!

Giving JC any playing time would be a mistake...he may well be able to function well vs NI....this would give Phil hope, and end the QB controversy.

Worst thing that could happen is that Crompton gets the start and looks good enough to stick with.

Of course I want Tennessee to win every game. However, if Crompton plays well enough against NIU to keep the job, then he'll just blow it for us later against Ga, Bama.....and maybe even MSU.

This Northern Illinois game just wreaks of Rutgers 1979....13-7 Scarlet Knights in Neyland Stadium.
