Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

I don't have a foolish theory and I certainly didn't insult you. But I make my living writing and negotiating contracts for athletes, coaches, and broadcasters. You can take what I say or leave it, but it's literally my job to know the eligibility and waiver processes. A player having a waiver granted means we're all making more money because noone is doing an NIL deal with a player that's sitting for a year.

Rickea Jackson didn't sit out a season, she stopped playing in January but had to wait until March to decide where she was going and was eligible for the next season. There's not a waiver that exists that allows a player to start a season at one school and be eligible at another in the same season.

It was mentioned several times in the media and by our former head coach that if Cooper had gotten kicked off of South Carolina's team she would have been eligible immediately, which was why her having to sit out made little sense. She was one of only six transfer players in D1 basketball that season that had to sit out. The rest either received a waiver of transferred during the portal period.
Thank you for being patient with KLU, and taking the time to explain from a position of expertise.

Now, on to my expertise (apparently), the art of childish 5 year old snark… 😉

USC generally refers to the University of Southern California, a private research university located in Los Angeles, California. It's also sometimes abbreviated as USC when referring to the University of South Carolina, but this is less common outside of South Carolina

Much more common outside of South Carolina and across the South is reference to Sakerlina.

South Carolina was granting degrees before California was a state. South Carolina was founded before the Lewis and Clark expedition. You'll find out who the real USC is when we play the pretender in November.

Looks like the NCAA just passed a waiver transfer portal rule that totally covers what happened to Pierre at Vanderbilt. I think she can start picking out the next school she wants to attend.
Are you talking about the one-time transfer rule without penalty? I thought that was for graduate transfers only.

According to google UT stands for University of Texas. Texas was first to use the abbreviation UT in an official governmental document before the Knoxville school landed on its final name.

Like I said before you never know what the NCAA are going to do. That's really crazy everything is already unstable. Coaches jobs get harder every time they do this crap .

The new rule says if your cut from a roster you can get a waiver and transfer between July 7th and August. I think she qualifies as being cut with a dismissal. I see a waiver coming for her since she didn't quit the team she was dismissed.

Google is going by some information that may be totally false and the SEC has designated Tennessee as UT not Texas which did not become a University until 1883. If the SEC recognizes Tennessee as UT that is good enough for me. To add I don't care who is USC don't care anything about either of the Universities in question.

There is still the conference rule as @DeerPark12 stated. The transfer will likely be OOC, just like he pointed out.

New waiver doesn't apply to her, it's only for players that were cut to get under a roster limit. Since WBB kept 15 scholarships and 15 roster spots, it doesn't apply to the sport. But, again, she was dismissed from the team so she is eligible for an existing hardship waiver.

Sounds like she may have wanted the job.

You obviously didn't read my earlier post. Dawn continues to interview not for the job but to further advance consideration of other men and women of color for pro coaching positions. It's no different than her refusing to have her own statue until she learned how few statues of African American women there are. To her fans she has made this crystal clear but the concept seems to be wasted on others.
