Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

Hayley Jones of Stanford has a knee problem as well and is out Stanford not saying much about if she is out for the season but some others don't think she want return this season.

I`m hearing the same Jones is done for the season ?

I’m guessing so. I think it’s likely an injury she could play with but there would be risk of it worsening.

In the past they have announced ACL and season ending injuries so I would think they would have if that were truly the case.

Jones was having a good season. I was looking for Stanford to make a run at a final 4. Any word on the other 2 players for Stanford that were injured? Carrington and Dodson may be the names.

Carrington should be back soon from what I’ve heard. No news on Dodson, I suspect they are angling toward a redshirt for her since she hasn’t entered any games at all this season. They have enough interior depth to play on without her, even though those interior players are freshman, they are very talented.

Stanford will have a log jam on the wing and post next year. I don`t see everyone hanging around ?

True those number ones they recruited haven't been or played like number ones. If you look at the recruiting sites their players at least the top five are all top ten or better players and two numbers ones. They only have a couple of effective players off the bench. All those highly ranked ranked players have not played to their ratings coming out of high school.

Walker has turned into a pretty good player but I dont think she's the top kid in her class. She's really struggled against good teams too. Williams is really good but hasnt developed that killer instinct yet. Might be another year before that happens. Kind of like Horston playing too fast. Once she slows down she'll be really good.

Their bench and lack of depth is really rough though. Their 2 frosh are good as role players but not ready to play starting minutes. Their 5th starter is Irwin who im not sure is a P5 caliber player, let alone starter. Then they have ONO who is a good physical specimen but is still quite raw and struggles against taller players. I think theyll be really tough next year and the following but i havent seen anything from them that suggests theyre a dangerous team to the top squads.

I agree with this analysis.

Teams have figured out Walkers weakness too. If you allow her to take set shots or get to the rim she is very effective. Against teams with size in the paint she has been significantly less effective. If you force her to put the ball on the floor and take jump shots she can’t get it done. Only shooting about 20% on mid-range jumpers. If she develops that part of her game next year she’ll be a complete player.

That was always true in the past, probably not anymore. There used to be just a few great college WBB teams capable of truly winning it each year, and UCONN sat on top of that very short list. There are more programs now that can legit recruit with quality coaching in place. The game is growing, attendance at many schools is remarkable compared to ten years ago. UCONN does not get the "go straight to NCAA Finals" card anymore... In case anyone is counting, its already been 3 years since they made the finals and unless I am mistaken, this will be the 4th straight year. I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that is a telling fact which lends itself to the growth of the sport, it is becoming a much more competitive landscape.
@Rooster1 are you criticizing a program that has been to 12 straight final fours? Really? Agreed this is a down year for us, so enjoy it. Most experts agree that this is a down year for all of WBB. You guys are having a good season and I don't begrudge you or Baylor or Oregon your performance. But when a gamecock throws rock at UConn they are throwing uphill for sure. How's your recruiting going?

i pretty much agree. Geno is primarily play 6 players now. Kyla Irwin starts but doesn't log but about 5 minutes for the game. Anna Makurat has really come on and is playing very well for them. That leaves 1 freshman off the bench and I really don't know how she does what she does but she is a game changer. Steal, rebounds, blocks, great one on one d. Geno said she is the best athlete he has coached. I expect to make the Elite 8 and would be real happy to get to the final four. But that's not bad for a down year, is it? Geno is already talking about a National Championship for next year. Baylor and Oregon will fall off and if South Carolina can't replace Harris they will also. Notre Dame looks about 2 years out. LV's need to find a couple of ball handlers

Can a team be a #1 Seed if they don't win their own Conference? Louisville will need to beat NC State on the road to get it done. And they beat FSU by 17!

Yes, back in the day the ACC had both duke and North Carolina in women’s basketball as number ones. I am pretty sure the SEC has had both TN and LSU as number one seeds with both teams making the final four.

That's not criticizing...that's telling it like it is. UConn is not looking like a NC contender right now. They need a competitive game vs. SC to change that perception.

There is something very wrong with you. You pull for UCONN over an SEC team. That is pure jealousy on your part. I pull for SEC teams against all others...I think most SEC fans pull for SEC schools against out of conference games...so it just boils down to jealousy in you. You seem to want to compare this team to past South Carolina teams because it makes you feel good to think they will fold. Those past teams would not have played the way these girls do...and none of these girls (freshmen) have any exposure to UCONN outside of the fact that UCONN tried very, very hard to get all of them...well, we did, they didn't...so deal with gule....I always pull for Tennessee in spite of your antics on the board (and my sister is an alum). Maybe you will get your wish and UCONN will win...and maybe not...either way...you are a pathetic excuse for an SEC fan....and I was member here 4 years before you.....so I am no newbee to your posts.
