Congrats on the sweet 16 run. They played who was in front of them and stepped up. Nobody expected it midway through the year. It was good to get jitters and to get out of my seat again while watching exciting and winning basketball. They fought.
As for tonight's game:
If you'd like to discuss the game or anything else you saw or disagree with, please do.

--waited too late tonight. Our intensity picked up in desperation time, which somewhat mirrors how we picked up our season when it was desperation time to win out. Not sure why the intensity wasn't there the first half but we were on our heels on D and not attacking the rim at all on offense
--film study-- We looked lost on D, as if we had no idea what Michigan was going to do. Yes they are a very good team and were hot, but the open looks due to our lack of effort and confusion was unexpected.
--this was a game many were concerned with in regards to Maymon and it absolutely killed us tonight. I feel bad for him, but he and Stokes shouldn't have been on the floor at the same time tonight. Maymon should've given Stokes rest and that's it. It's hard to do, but you have to do what will win you the game and they picked their matchup. Maybe I'm thinking it was worse than it was, but if there is a plus/minus for his pt, I'd like to know it if anyone happens to see it.
--The Charge was horse****. Stokes had been basically shoved out of bounds earlier which resulted in a turnover and bucket on the other end and killed momentum. His shoulder did not hit that dude in the chest. First, the guy handchecks, then, Stokes has his shoulder towards the guys shoulder and he flops, just as Stokes is getting hacked from the help D. If the ball flies like that out of the hands of the player, its because his hand or wrist was slapped. If the player gets ball, the ball goes to the floor.
--Not sure what was going on at pg tonight, but we got back in the game, so it's hard to complain really. Barton had a bad turnover when he was hesitant to shoot and I think Martin may have not only obviously not liked the turnover, but didn't like the hesitation, though I think he didn't pull the trigger because nobody was underneath. I'm not sure he played again.

Again, they repped UT well and my phone is still going off with texts from random people. Lets see what the offseason holds.

Really question why it took so long to pull Maymon for Moore. The first half it was Reese and it was clear he wasn't any better defensively. The foul trouble on Maymon was almost a blessing as it forced Moore to play, wish we would've gone to it 2 minutes in.

That's the most frustrating thing to me. Stokes gets hit so much and absorbs no calls and then gets burned by a flop.

Maymon really did hurt us in this game. Moore was the better option and should have been in the game more imo.

I wish Maymon would've gotten 3 fouls in the first 2 minutes. Nothing personal. Kid is more mentally and physically tough than I could ever think about. Just a bad matchup. Akin to me guarding Penny Hardaway when I held him to 41

I don't think GR3 had a pt while being guarded by Moore. But our help defense was mia all night as well. We had to suspect Maymon was going to ha e trouble staying with Robinson.

Loved the fight. This really ended up being a tough team. Hats off to the seniors for closing our their careers with style.

Not angry, just disappointed that 30 mins of so-so playing cost our Vols the game. If they had played with the same intensity of the last 10 mins for the whole game, our Vols could have won. But at least they gave it a great shot and didn't get blown-out. Go Vols!

Good stuff Sparty. I think the early ticky-tac fouls in the first two minutes threw us off and it took too long to recover.

I don't know about you, but that last minute snuck up on me. I'm sitting there thinking we have a miracle, then I'm like "he stepped out! holy ****", then I paced around saying "holy ****" over and over, wondering what the play would be.
Of course hindsight, but since we throw it to Stokes there a lot and come across for handoffs from the out of bounds man, I would've really thought about McRae or Jrich throwing it to him and coming around for a handoff and attacking the rim.
Looked like he had the pass up top, but Stokes was trying to make a play, so you can't really fault him, especially since he got hacked and flopped on.

Good write up.

Totally don't understand the dazed look we had in the first half and the lack of weak-side help on D.

I know Michigan spreads the floor and you have to decide to respect the shooters, or sag. I'd much rather get beat by sagging on the weak side and forcing them to kick it back out on the dribble drive. We didn't, and they got way too many lay-ups and dunks in the first half.

Offensively, I thought we reverted to our old selves at times...somewhat stagnant and settling for outside shots.

Not pulling Maymon off GRIII earlier, as others have said, was a head scratcher to me.

Regardless, team represented well and didn't quit. Hope we haven't seen the last of Stokes in a Vol uni.

The life of the Tennessee Bball fan...getting to the mountain top and getting a glimpse of the promised land...but never getting to step foot into it.

Excellent stuff. I'm not sure the plan was the problem or that TN wasn't ready as a team. The Vols made a few shots early, as did UM. Then, instead if upping the defensive intensity, TN tried to get in a scoring contest with them. McRae wasn't hustling and Barton was awful.

In the 2nd half McRae woke up and Barton was benched. For several weeks, Mac played good team defense, shared the ball, and didn't pout when his shot wasn't falling. Also, Barton quit playing tentatively. As a result, the team went on a run as this time of year is about the backcourt. Tonight, for a half, they reverted back and couldn't recover.

The last "play" we ran was horrible. You give it to a wing and have Stokes crash the boards.

I'm still proud of our boys

One of the most exciting finishes to a UT basketball game I can remember. Insane they were able to withstand the flurry of the 3's and claw back into the game.

They deserved better, but I couldn't be any prouder of this team. LOTS of heart.

Maybe it will be good motivation for the offseason!

Awesome run by the Vols either way!

I was out of my mind when we got the ball back, woke up my nine month old clapping. And then for it to end like that, so hard to swallow. Very proud of this team and all that they fought through!

Also, the officiating was atrocious, especially the call at the end. It was like that ref was planning to make that call. The refs were very one sided in the first half too.

Very impressed with the defensive adjustments in the last 10 minutes. It's easy to criticize the defense for first 30 minutes but Michigan is ultra talented and was sizzling hot from all over the floor (even NBA range, banking shots, getting every roll and call for the most part). And still our team which certainly does not look talented enough to make up big deficits was actually able to somehow will themselves back into the game and had a legitimate chance to win.

I did not look at the first half as a lack of intensity problem. I think UM made contested shots, they were not challenging shots but contested. Sometimes teams make plays and that is what they did in the first half. I have a bigger issue with TN not showing any different defenses. From my experience playing zone can make things easier to defend three point shooting when played correct, you have less screen issues and that is what was killing us. Just a change a few possessions to give them something to think about. The Maymon thing is another question I have as well, TN's staff had to know we were at a disadvantage with that matchup and when it was evident we did not gain an advantage on the offensive end there should have been a change. Not an adjustment, but a change that had planned for the situation that was playing out. But hey, I do not coach college basketball and no one has asked me to. It was a great game and we just did not make a play at the end to win it.

We ever category except Free Throw and 3 point shooting percentage. We increase either by 10% we win, or if touch fouls or fathoms were not called we win.

Hard to beat a team that shoots 55% from the arch. We showed a lot of fight down the stretch and I am proud of our guys. You can "if" and "but" this game to death…if UM shoots 50% from three we probably win. Jordan M. missing 5-6 FT certainly didn't help either.

Can't fault the effort down the end though. They have a lot to be proud of.

not sure what happened with intensity to start the game. It seemed that after that bank 3 went in from the dude with a Riyanna forehead, our body language changed and it affected our play. On our heels on D the whole time and our offensive aggression was affected, imo. Usually it's the D lagging if guys have a bad offensive night, but imo tonight, our bad d affected our offense, until we tightened up late, got desperate and aggressive and attacked the rim.
