His Arizona State offense is 11th in the nation (ahead of Arkansas), he's got a history in the SEC, and his head coach is on the hot seat.
He's a high energy guy (which we've been missing), has NFL experience, and likes the shotgun. I'm sold.

Dont let the 11th in the nation fool you, he also coaches for a team who is in the worst conference for defenses. Arkansas is in a conference with the best defenses. The ratings for best defenses and offenses in the country are a bit misleading

I do agree with you. But we have to find a realistic replacement if Dooley gets enough balls to fire Chaney. And I don't care if he's in the WAC, 11th in the country is worth the change.

We complain about a solid running game being essential to winning in the SEC. UT can't line up and run the ball effectively yet we want an OC from out west who loves playing from the shotgun?

He has been an OC for over 2 decades. No reason to believe he has any interest in head coaching.
It looks like Mazzone has adjusted to his surroundings with his teams. He didn't sling the ball around under Tubberville. But when you coach in the PAC 12, running isn't a strong recruiting point.
Why would you leave Stanford or Wisconsin for UT? It's a backwards move.

Backwards move in what way? That their school's have had very moderate success over the course of their history?

Only way I would say it's a backwards move is that their HC's are in much more stable job positions. However, remember that Wilcox jumped at the chance to coach at one of the top (historically) programs in the best conference. Some people love a good challenge, it's not always about playing it safe. Why some are more successful than others.

Would be on board. He is doing a fantastic job and is a bright offensive mind.

It's a lateral move, he will be looking for a HC job.

No, I don't think so. He's making plenty of cash from his system that he is selling to high-schools and I'm not sure that he wants a head-coaching gig.

I can see that it would be a good challenge. But it's not like Wisconsin is a flash in the pan. And remember, Wilcox came from Boise St... not a BCS school.

Not sure what that implies about Wilcox? He moved into the toughest conference, into a better opportunity, and a bigger challenge at UT. Wilcox will be a HC someday, a very good HC imo and the move into the SEC helped him get closer to that position.

I like Wisconsin, but if one looked at all the variables, Tennessee is definitely not a step backwards. At worst it's a lateral move.

The SEC is a physical conference, we need an OC that is not only suited to physical play but one who can match up with our current roster strengths and weaknesses.

Remember the Clawfence, we don't need gimmicks, we need results

Comparing Mazzone, a proven OC in the SEC, ACC, NFL, & the PAC 10... to Clawson, an OC from the Richmond Spiders? He's not a gimmick guy, he's the best we can get.
