His Arizona State offense is 11th in the nation (ahead of Arkansas), he's got a history in the SEC, and his head coach is on the hot seat.
He's a high energy guy (which we've been missing), has NFL experience, and likes the shotgun. I'm sold.

Dont let the 11th in the nation fool you, he also coaches for a team who is in the worst conference for defenses. Arkansas is in a conference with the best defenses. The ratings for best defenses and offenses in the country are a bit misleading
He could be looking for a job if Ericsson is out at ASU
He has been an OC for over 2 decades. No reason to believe he has any interest in head coaching.
It looks like Mazzone has adjusted to his surroundings with his teams. He didn't sling the ball around under Tubberville. But when you coach in the PAC 12, running isn't a strong recruiting point.
Why would you leave Stanford or Wisconsin for UT? It's a backwards move.
Backwards move in what way? That their school's have had very moderate success over the course of their history?
Only way I would say it's a backwards move is that their HC's are in much more stable job positions. However, remember that Wilcox jumped at the chance to coach at one of the top (historically) programs in the best conference. Some people love a good challenge, it's not always about playing it safe. Why some are more successful than others.
I can see that it would be a good challenge. But it's not like Wisconsin is a flash in the pan. And remember, Wilcox came from Boise St... not a BCS school.
