Noah's Ark

This is perhaps the most ironic thing I've read from you yet. keep it coming. :)

You'll notice that I have not responded to you in a while. Would you like to know why? Because you are insignificant to the conversation and you are a coward. You made half-cocked statements and disappeared when you were called on it and asked to support them. Despite what anyone on here may believe, I respect the people that I am currently in conversation with in this thread, because they have at least stayed around to support their position.

You? Not so much. You wrote checks you couldn't cash and then disappeared when I called you on it. You just come back and shoot asinine comments from the safety of your cage. So, bring something to defend or go back to your cage.

I don't owe you any type of response other than what you deserve, which is ridicule. Keep trying to desperately seem intimidating, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. :)

Jesus had four brothers making the whole virgin claim spurious at best, and the translation of the Hebrew "almah" (youn woman) to Greek "parthenos" (virgin) may have even been wrong to begin with.

I forgot that I didn't deal with the latter half of this sentence. When the Jews were dispersed during their Greek occupation (beginning in ~330 BC), the Jews became a Greek-speaking people. So, they needed a Greek version of their scriptures (the Christian Old Testament). They translated the OT into Greek, and it's called the Septuagint. When the Jews, who knew Hebrew better than anyone, translated Isaiah's use of "almah", guess what Greek word they translated it to... The Greek "parthenos"-- virgin.

This was over 300 years before Jesus. The people most familiar with the language, and most familiar with its prophetic connotations, viewed this as a prophecy of a virgin birth for their messiah.

I thought that was a make believe holiday.

It'a a non-religious African & pan-African holiday that runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1. It focuses on family, community & culture. It's really a focus on the need for family values. Make believe or not.....it's dancing in the streets here 24/7 in Jackson as you can imagine. I've never been to it cause it's not my thing or culture.

Some good ole confirmation bias in this thread. Orange crush, I'm sure u are a big hit in your Sunday school class

OC....I'm not going to go through point by point and refute what you are saying, or philosophically challenge it. I think it is safe to say that at this point it would be fruitless. You have your ideas of what you think is logically valid and it isn't going to change. If PKT can't convince you of the errors you are making, I know I can't. I still think you are making logical errors and bending the conclusions you are coming to to fit the answer you want.

Further, the explanations you have offered in the way of the Biblical inconsistencies are not convincing and seem contrived on the surface. The text is right there, and I find it unreasonable that a God would require that amount of puzzle solving for it to make that kind of crazy sense. It seems as if you have the answer you want to reach, and that square peg has been jammed in that round hole. Problem solved, you're happy.

Now, admittedly, I haven't studied your Biblical explanations in depth (it's a bunch to wade through and argue historical merits of your claims) but maybe when I get around to it I may come to a different conclusion.

The idea of a God is at least possible, we all agree. But the more specific the claims get the less and less likely it is that they are accurate, no matter what amount of mental gymnastics you do to convince yourself otherwise. Specific details aside, Christianity is no more correct than any other religion IMO.

All I'm willing to concede at this point is you have at least read the Bible thought about how it COULD all make sense, however unlikely and convoluted it is. This puts you in the minority with most believers I have come across.

rjd, I'll just end with a couple of things. Recognizing what is, and is not, a contradiction is not mental gymnastics. Lastly, thank you for your time in discussion; I hope that you have a good weekend.
