He's right. Stokes made an accusation with an assertion of proof beyond reproach under the guise of a question by designating his unnamed source as being a "really good authority". That was unprofessional. If he had simply asked Butch, "Did you have an altercation with Mack Crowder in August?" that would have been a question and been completely acceptable.
If you are going to designate one of your sources as a "really good authority" then you should identify the source so that label can be verified. If you are not able or willing to identify a source then no such designation should be given. At the very least Stokes was incredibly unprofessional. By no stretch is he a legitimate journalist. That was clumsy as hell.
