No way we get a 6 seed...

I want to see someone post a legitimate case for the inclusion of any SEC West team in the field.

Unless a SEC West team wins the SEC tourney, I don't see how picking an Ole Miss or Mississippi State over a Vandy, Kentucky or UT could be justified

Ole Miss is in the process of showing exactly why they have no business in the NCAAs.

They have a favorable remaining schedule, if Ole Miss wins there last 3 and an SEC tourney game, they will be in.. If they lose 1 of the last 3, they still have a good chance.. There 18-9 with 3 to go plus the SEC.. I wouldn't be writing them off right now..

..... Scratch all that, USC is wearing them out right now..

Tell me again what Ole Miss did in the nonconference portion of their schedule to merit consideration.

After watching an uninspired UF lose to an avg LSU team this afternoon, I believe we have better than a 50/50 chance of beating them in TBA. The Vols are in. Even the nat'l braoadcasters have mentioned that Tenn is a different team w/ Lofton in the lineup. I think we may be getting more respect nationally than we believe, no matter what Lawgator thinks...

I'm certain that he thinks two recent losses represent a disturbing trend.

What was the purpose in creating such a negative thread? Where has UT been listed as a 6-seed? We just punched our ticket to the Dance today. Why start a thread for the silly purpose of why, in someone's opinion, we're not a 6-seed? A discussion of what seeds are possible, given different finishing scenarios, which is what this turned into, is worthwhile though. On that note, I think I'll start a thread called, "No way we get a 1-seed."

Well, mainly to pour cold water on posts like this...

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols/26278-our-ticket-now-punched.html

I know, I know, but the SEC road win was the only missing item on the resume. Even if, worst case scenario, UT loses to Florida and Georgia and loses in the 1st round of the SEC tournament, they've still got 20 wins, 8-8 SEC record (at worst), RPI will be in the 20's (at worst), 5 wins over ranked teams. The only question now is seeding. If UT does lose out, they'll be an 8 or 9 seed. Another win or two and they could go as high as 5 or 6.

People are already saying we've punched a ticket and it is just a matter of seeding. The NCAA selection committee still remembers the flak they caught last year about us being over-seeded. Plus, 20 wins is great, but losing the last two games and then getting an early bounce in the SEC will not help. Add that to the fact that the SEC West is so horrible...

The selection committee will give exactly zero thought to where they seeded Tennessee last year. If they worried about past seeding mistakes, Arizona would be no higher than a 10 seed in the next five tournaments.

What does the fact that the SEC West is horrible have to do with UT's chances?

You beat me to this post. Again, the tournament committee will not consider last year's results in this year's seeding.

I agree that losing the next three games will make me sweat just a tad until the selections are announced, but I think we are in regardless.

I do think that we would be more dangerous in the NCAAs in an underdog role than as a favorite. Last year, we were viewed as the weakest 2-seed. This year, if we are seeded between 7 and 9, our potential 2nd-round opponent might overlook us a tad.

CBP's publicity he brings the Vols ensures that no one will ever overlook us. Quiet, we are not.

Cue the requisite quote about Tennessee playing better as an underdog...

Well, if we lose the next 2 games, then are 1 and done in the SEC tourney, that is gonna be a lot of pressure on us to even slip in the tourney, especially if one of the at-large spots goes to a team that is 15-15 and won some mid-major tourney.

(In other words, we need to be rooting for teams like Butler to win their conference tourney. And really, you can make an argument that Memphis needs to win theirs, also, even though CUSA is technically not a mid-major, but is in a weak conference this year.)

Even if the Vols lose as you say, no team better than RPI 40 has ever been left out of the NCAA tournament.

Who would have thought the Vols would have been a 2 seed last season? While a six seed is probably not likely, you just never know.
