No way we can keep Pruitt

Notice that there are 12 to 15 of the same old people who post on every single thread--always the same crap. It gives the illusion that there is a great groundswell of clamor wanting to make a change right now, this second. You whip yourself up into a self-deluded frenzy, thinking that the tens of thousands of Volunteer fans agree with you (you know who you are). Fact is, most fans are dissatisfied with the state of things right now, but no one is expecting the school to cough up 25 mil in these times to make a change. Might as well put away the torches and pitchforks. Mr. Pruitt will be with us at least one more year.

Why fire Pruitt? High chance UT will just hire another loser coach.

Kiffin: losing record before UT.
Dooley: losing record before UT
Butch: winning record...
Pruitt: zero experience.

So we have a high chance of UT hiring another loser.
If we have to continue to pay him after he is relieved of the HC position, why not keep him as DC? If he quits at the demotted position maybe we get out of the buyout.

I agree. He’s done and everyone knows it.

I’m going to make a bold prediction. Notice how all of the buzz died around Freeze.... I predict that Pruitt will be fired sometime soon after Saturday and Hugh Freeze will be the next HFC at UT (Liberty’s last game is this Saturday).

I claim no “inside” connections. I’m just throwing it out there.

Makes a lot of sense on paper. However there’s too much chaos in the program for this to happen. Put it this way: there’s a better chance Pruitt learns how to be a head coach than there is Fuller hiring the right man for the job.

I’m always amazed that fans of a program with its best record over the past decade+ being 8-5...can somehow act like an 8-4 record in a coach’s second season would be a bad thing.

Ridiculous!
Oh, I think 8-4 in year 2 would be great, provided no Georgia State type losses.

You CAN NOT fire Coach Pruitt unless you already have Hugh Freeze or another major name on the line. Even then you have to be prepared for that line to break. This should be fairly seamless being that CJP and CHF are both represented by Jimmy Sexton right?

That would complicate things.

If we wait another year, it will be that. Move now, and I could see a non-losing season in ‘21.
For all practical intents and purposes, Tennessee has started a five year rebuilding program every year since Fulmer's last season.

Do you think any of these fired coaches such as Mason or Muschamp would have interest in pairing up with Hugh Freeze for a DC position at UT?

That would complicate things.

He gets another big pay day if Freeze is hired. He has already secured his money for Pruitt. Also looking back Sexton has a positive relationship with Coach Fulmer. At the end of the day its all about whatever puts more money in the agents pocket. He will use his alma matter to cash in on another pay day.

It would have to be a conflict of interest to negotiate a contract for Freeze while Pruitt is the coach.

I hope that if Fulmer does fire Pruitt that the first couple of ex coaches or current coaches that he reaches out to is Urban Meyer, Matt Campbell or even Lane Kiffin ...which i know i'm gonna get plenty of **** for mentioning Kiffin but that joker put a real scare into Saban back in 2009....just saying

You left out the part that he hasn't beaten anyone. The only wins were non conference and SEC bottom dwellers.

If Texas can’t get Meyer.......they will scoop Freeze up before Tennessee will have the chance to offer Pruitt another extension.

I love the Vols......but I’m getting extremely tired of their football crap!

I’m not defending Pruitt. Any season with a loss to GaSt is suspect to me. And then this season...

I’m talking about those who dismiss a new coach because he might only be 8-4 by Year 2.

I’m not against it at all as Freeze is an upgrade over Pruitt and I think someone who is one of the few coaches that are realistically an option for us. Getting Freeze means that Fulmer has finally done what Currie, Hart, and Hamilton never could do and that is tell the Boosters to shut up and cut the check.

I would be bigly surprised if Boosters cut a 25 million dollar commitment to make a coaching staff change with a 40-50 million dollar shortfall. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Fulmer is the one who makes it happen. Because the days of the Haslams being the final say so are over.

I agree, but I’m just not sold that there are any big time athletics boosters left who give a damn. The university obviously doesn’t, so why should boosters keep throwing their money down the drain?

That's not how contracts work.

In the contract, he is the head football coach.

There is nothing in the contract staying he can be demoted.

He can only be fired and given a buyout or resign and pay the university back money.

He will never resign unless he is leaving for another job. I wouldn't resign either. I'd take the buyout money.

I get you trying to figure this out. And I have zero respect for Fulmer. But if you think for one moment he might reach out to Kiffen? You have no grasp of reality.

There is no way we can keep Pruitt now. Year 3 and he still looks lost out there, cant handle qb situation or any on field situation. Our recruiting class is falling apart and there is no way we will be able to recover with Pruitt

Yup. And that is his $12 million plan.

It makes sense to me.

Especially after the 51 point beatdown out Vols will endure from Florida.
