no vandy?

Can someone give me a good reason as to how Notre Dame is in and Vanderbilt is not. Just look at their schedules.
The CFP is an entertainment vehicle, not a measure of "let's sort out the best teams." That's obvious from the inclusion of lesser conference champions.

ND is a much larger brand with a big national fan base.

They bring many more eyeballs to the CFP than Vandy.

I'd realign my view of the CFP if I were you. It's NOT a showing of the best college football teams in America but a business enterprise to generate revenue.

Basically, the committee decided that Vandy wasn't invited to the party. They will justify it by the fact that they have LSU, Missouri and Tennessee out of the CFP top 25, which means Vandy does not have a ranked win while Notre Dame has the win over USC.

To me it is very easy why ND is in over Vandie. ND has 2 losses just like Vandie. ND lost on the road at Miami to another playoff team. ND also lost to A&M, one of the best teams in the country by 1 point of some crazy shenanigans.

They just have better losses than Vandie does and that's what it boils down to.

Now I think right now that Vandie is playing as well as anybody in the country and I can't believe that I'm actually saying this. As much as I hate it it is remarkable. They are certainly better than half of the teams that will make the playoff but they should not be in place over ND.

I’m not happy about it at all. It’s a damn crime - there is no universe where an SEC team at 10 -2 should be left out.
The powers that be aren’t letting 6 SEC teams in. Can you imagine the screaming if the BIG only gets 3 and we had six? (I’m shocked that we are getting 5.) The only way I can see Vandy getting in is if Bama gets curb stomped by Georgia Saturday even though folks say they don’t penalize teams that lose in the conference championship game. The committee might have second thoughts if that were to happen.

Very well said. Probably the best, most succinct explanation I've heard. It's all about E$PN.

First of all, kudos to your spelling 'vandie'...they hate that. 😛 Whatever causes heartburn in commode-doors fans brings joy, satisfaction, & glee. Yank 'er down, vandie.

USC is better than any win Vandy has. And both of ND's losses were in extremely close games that came down to the wire vs 2 top 12 teams.

Vandy pretty much got dominated by a 2 loss Bama team. Then a 3 loss Texas team smacked them around for them for 3 quarters, although it ended up close in the end.

The TV networks want ratings. Notre Dame will produce a lot of viewers (from fans who want them to win and from fans of other teams who want them to lose). Vanderbilt doesn’t have a large fan base and most other fan bases are indifferent about them.

You are correct and Vandy doesn't have a large fan base and that is the reason why they are gonna get shafted.

Pretty sad actually

While I hate Candy, I would like to see them get in and do well-lets just say I have a complicated relationship with the commode doors. Every fanbase-even Vandy-deserves a once in a lifetime type season and they are having it now. As much as I dislike them, at the same time I am happy for them. They play a style all ball that is hard to beat in that they seldom make mistakes. While it is painfully boring to watch, I must admit they have found success in grinding teams down.

They certainly did it to us a few days ago

Why are folks focused on ND? If there were 6 SEC teams, Texas is the next one in - so it would take 7 to get to Vandy.

For Vandy to get in they would need to be in the top 9 to be ensured of a playoff spot thus they would need to be considered to be better than the following teams:

- Bama who beat Vandy
- Notre Dame
- BYU
- Miami
- Texas who beat Vandy

It is not about participation trophies because a team has never been there. They are not there because they lost games they needed to win.

Lol.

I see that Vandy was trying to challenge Miami and/or Utah to a game this weekend

Don't NCAA regulations limit you to 12 regular season games. You get 13 if you travel to Hawaii I think in order to make money to pay for that trip

If they played another game this weekend-would that not be their postseason? No bowls possible?

Or am I understanding things wrong?

I have doubts about Bama if they lose Saturday

I don't see a 3 loss team getting in. Not this year

Tejas is up next and then Vandy

Not really. Hell, Miami beat the Irish head to head, and then they lost to A. and M.

Okay but Vandy is like the 3rd or 4th team that should be in.

Miami, Texas, and Utah have better claims than Vandy.

We are more emotionally invested in ND since the movie “Rudy” was made about an underdog we can all relate to. Vandy just needs a movie “Diego” about a humble walk on turned Heisman winner we can all relate to 😀
