8-4 isn't what we expect after 4 years. However, Butch took over a toilet bowl program. Fact is we could have easily been 10-2 this year and last year or 6-6 both years. It takes time to build a culture and he is doing it brick by brick. Coaches should get 5 years and Butch will get his 5th year. Lets hope there is improvement and finally over the hump.

Texas did Strong dirty he would have a good year next year with everyone he has coming back. Lets hope Tennessee doesn't make the same mistake. Make some staff changes, hit the recruiting trail.:rock:

4 years in and Butch Jones can't beat instate rival Vanderbilt, enough said?

How can you justify losing to SCAR and Vandy? UT crapped the bed big time by losing those.

Yeah we had the East handed to us, then Sugar Bowl and couldn't close the deal on either one! :banghead2:

What could have been???

Butch is the first Tennessee Head Coach to have multiple losses to vandy, during his tenure, since M.B. Banks was HC (1921-1925).

You'll certainly get your wish for a fifth year for Jones but like Dooley before him it's extremely obvious to anyone, other than a PollyVol, that Jones is not a top tier head coach. Butch will never achieve much more than what he has already accomplished at UT. 6 to 8 wins is his ceiling in this league.

I can't wait for David Blackburn (hopefully) to be hired as our next AD. He has demonstrated over and over again his ability to recognize upcoming coaching talent and we need that desperately because UT is not going to pay top dollar for a new head coach in any sport IMO. :banghead2:

either could ole miss, Georgia whats your point?

Butch is now 2-2 vs the dores....... I get it, but lets face the fact we played with 5 3rd teamers on defense Saturday night.

Butch isn't the problem....Shoop Blitzing 85% of the time leaving no one on the back end to make a tackle is the problem. when you only have to get past 4 years to get to the 2nd level and then its all daylight teams are going to have multiple big plays as we have seen.

I wasn't too sure about what you were saying till you added that little head rock thing.


He's already had his chances to fix it since he's had massive staff changes and if anything we've regressed. The on field coaching is average to bad, and he has no clue how to manage a game.

It would be easy to name a number of proven head coaches but that would be futile as we all know. First, most wouldn't leave their current positions and second, we wouldn't pay them the money required.

That's why we need an AD with an eye for talent and that's where David Blackburn has excelled. He or someone with similar skills and track record of good hires is a MUST at this time for Tennessee.

Having been there and seen Shurmur pass Cutler in the Vandy record books was horrible. I would have rather had Ralph Webb run all over us. Shurmur passed for 416 yds. Dude only had 280 yds against WKU...what is going on with our secondary? Too young, lack of talent, or both?

I have been a supporter of Butch since he was hired. I think he's a quality man, good coach, and he works very hard. I also don't believe wins mean the world, but they're important.

What has happened over the course of four years has been an upward trajectory in a harsh environment both in terms of what was left for him and having to literally rebuild the team.

He has done what was asked, but I cannot tell you anymore that we will go anywhere from here. I can't explain what the hell happened this season even knowing about all the "unfortunate" injuries. I think the only explanation is coaching, and I fear Butch knows this too. (See post game press conf.)

He gets a 5th year. If only because there's no one better/available. A 5th year tells coaches you will get a chance here. We won't be a smoldering ruin with no talent. However, I fully expect Butch to not be our long term solution. He's a re-builder, and I thank him for that.

After Butch is through making us relevant and worth a look from some solid high tier coaches we need to move on.

No hard feelings.

He's only going to get a 5th year because we don't have an AD in place who is going to fire him right before he retires.

Butch Jones is the only coach in nearly 100 years of UT football to lose to Vandy twice, and he did it in a 4 year period.

It's time to stop judging our coaches by being "better than Dooley".

this is the typical answer ...everyone thinks the grass is greener! Jones didn't lose against A&m 7 turnovers did. Bama is just that good. South Carolina well that one is on him. Vandy....we played D3 players at 60% of defense positions.

Butch is the right guy but we need a OC and DC change asap.

No he gets a 5th year because there is a 10 million dollar buyout by a stupid AD.

3 deep in the roster should still be better than a starter at vandy.... I mean lets be real its vandy
