That was an awful big smile on Currie's face when Gruden's name was brought up. You could view that either negatively or positively but it was interesting.

Search firms are typically used to (1) investigate backgrounds and identify the right fit for the university; and (2) a method for not being rejected directly by the candidate, they reject overtures and interest as inquired through the search firm.

This sounds to me that Currie already has his guy.

Maybe that was the core of "the search firm" with 1 or 2 outsiders for deniability if needed?

With true orange blood persons involved, Peyton and Fulmer, I have a more positive feeling in this hire than those in the past.

I take it as “ I’ve got my guy and two more”. If things go so badly none of those are hired, I’ll be in the street and the next guy can hire a search firm”.

Search firms are how you end up with Derek Dooley and Butch Jones, big name coaches want to be pursued by an AD and Big Money Men who know wtf they're doing.

Great post, I would trust their opinions over some "firm" any day of the week.

That or they have a shortlist they feel confident they can hire from that requires minimal vetting.

If they were willing to go with a Coach Google I think that would start with a search firm.

So it gives me some confidence that they're not hiring search firm. My guess is they're targeting candidates we all know at the least.

Kinda makes me think he has his guy and is very confident that he will do well thus allowing him to be the single one who gets credit for it!
