No pressure on Vols Saturday

Long term I think this is exactly right. Short term, it's going to be a long two weeks until Bama if we are sitting at 2-4 on Saturday night. It's a measure of how far we've fallen as a program, but 3-3 would feel great going into the bye week.

To a degree, I think there is some pressure on us.

Realistically, I think the staff, and the fan base felt that a 3-2 start was expected. And a 4-1 start was very possible. With the staff probably expect 4-1, more than 3-2. This team needs a WIN!, period. UF was a well planned, and well played game. We got all we could get out of that weekend, short of a W. The staff/team/fanbase would be hard pressed to walk away from Neyland Saturday with the dreaded "moral victory".

So I believe, there is a level of pressure on UT. If that causes the team, as a whole to focus better, and play on an edge. Im all for it. Not sure at this point, it could have much of a negative effect.

"top paid"

"highest paid"

i don't understand the constant references to the payroll of the UT coaching staff. iirc this staff is not even the highest paid in the SEC, much less the NCAA.

what point are you trying to get across?

Yes, another misrepresentation by Griff. What a surprise.

No pressure? Should be some, it is a rivalry game and a team we've at least held serve with as of late. I don't agree that Lane is comfortable in his position and there is no pressure. The last coach thought that way and we see where that got him.

"When the competition is close at a position, Kiffin is going to go with the younger guy every time."

Not every time.... See Crompton, Jonathan.

I still see this a big rivalry game. But obviously outside of the two teams this is viewed as a UT-UK type game since it's the early JP game.

The longer UT goes without an SEC win.......the harder it is going to be. Every games is winable and that is why they play the games but I gotta believe Kiffin is going to come up with some strategy to win one of the next few SEC games.

It's definitely not viewed that way nationally, but this is one of the teams Kiffin was brought in to beat. So yeah he can't just play it off as another day at the office. I don't think he does anyway, just the way Griff made it sound was like he really didn't care. Kiffin has a calm cool demeanor which i like. He just isn't a east Tennessee good ole boy and these reporters and some people just aren't used to it. He knows this game is big, just like every one of them will be the rest of the season.

I think Lane cares -- he wants to win. But he has no history with Georgia, good or bad.
It's important UT plays well as it helps in recruiting, which Lane does understand.
But a lot of these match ups, which are quite personal to fans, don't hold the same zest for Kiffin.
Once he loses, or gets a score run up, or has an exchange of words, he'll get a history with these other teams/coaches.
But right now, it's like the NFL to him, a serious job he has been hired to do well.
