No more excuses for this team

Our fanbase needs to lighten up. Having our starters out was probably a good thing. No way Hurd gets 300 yds like Kam. Jumper also played a very good game. Did you see him lay that guy out for a TFL? We coulda used Cam but our DB (was it Foreman) kept us from losing earlier by causing the fumble on the 1 yd line.

We lost because of the basics. - gotta hang onta the freaking ball!! 7 TO's!!!

This. It isn't getting better. It's getting worse. These things are on the coaches.

No. No "these things" are NOT always on the coaches. It's a poor mind whose only "excuse" for team performance is always coaching. There is -also- pure athleticism, limits of physical capability, execution, esprit de corp, individual attitude, luck, etc. And all of that for the opposition.

But these folk who go after coaching like it's the only thing ... All the ball control, protection, receiving technique issues we had at A&M are "fundamental coachable skills", and these skills have been drilled in to the players since the first day of Pop Warner, Jr. High, High School B-Team and Varsity. At the college level, you can only cover each fundamental so much, and you know with the past 4 games, the Vols coaches have. But then IT IS ON the players to execute. I have no patiece anymore with the "it's all on the coaches" types. They deserve no respect. None. Small minded individuals who can't see a bigger picture. Makes one wonder if they're the type who always want to blame their own shortcomings in life on their "coach/boss/supervisor".

Tennessee offense hung more yards on John Chavis and the A&M defense than any team in the history of A&M football.

Injuries, turnovers and penalties did the Vols in yesterday. Hindsight has 20-20 and the coaches will deal with these in practice as you know they have been anyway.

I'm proud of the whole team, coaches and all for the no quit grit they have.

Me too . Hate the mistakes. But that team played their butt off. Hate losing, but I'm as happy as I can be after that game. Reminded me of 2013 GA game.

Honestly, considering all the mistakes, som "questionable" refereeing, huge momentum shifts....7 turnovers.... To get that game to OT down 21 in that stadium... Yeah 120 is pretty damn good.

That loss felt as close to wunning as it could. And probably a little cosmic justice that it ended on another turnover...lol

Anyone calling the op names needs a reality check and to take off the orange glasses. That is why we lost. I figure turnovers are part of the game at times and on the player but when you continue to have them at this rate the staff has to start taking part of the accountability. I dont know what but somethings changed because discipline was a strong point of this staff.

When you are 5-1 you aren't making excuses, you're kicking butt and taking names. Best Bama, so when we beat them again in Atlanta they will know it is t luck or Pixy-dust.

Classy! Name the bad calls. Want to see bad officiating?

Meh. Those are nonconsequential, especially on a Hail Mary throw. If you wsnt to see a blatant hold then watch your LT holding Barnett on Eason's TD throw. But he held Barnett the entire game and the officials turned a blindeye.

We lost because we lack discipline. Bottom line.

You know nothing about football. We got alot of players hurt that is not playing. We did turn the ball over 7 times and still took the number 8 team in the nation to two overtimes. This team plays hard with a lot of backups. But you are entitled to your post no matter how dumb they may be. I bet you a Florida fan.

Those commenting on discipline are correct. Players should be wrapping the ball tight against their bodies to avoid having it knocked loose. Dobbs has always made questionable throws. Our secondary has always had a problem with coverage and wrap up tackling. There are areas of discipline that can and should be fixed. But that doesn't change how losing key personnel effects a game. And every game has questionable calls.

They aren't better.

Says who?

They've recruited better over the past 4 years.

Vegas thought they were about a touchdown better.

The betting public agreed.

Sagarin's numbers favored A&M.

Espn's FPI favored A&M.

The polls favored A&M.

They won the game.

Etc, etc.

And while you can argue that each of those are flawed in their methodology, I'm having trouble finding any serious metric that agrees with you.

From where I sit, they were the objectively better team, but UT played them to a standstill, in their house. From a national perception, this loss might actually have done more to improve the perception of UT than the previous 5 wins. We just need to win the rest of the games that we should (I'd love to beat Bama next week, but that's unlikely) and finish the season 10-2.

Ball protection is key and coaches should make sure a player knows that. Continue to make the same mistake, get benched until you get the point. Players have personal responsibility, coaches have responsibility to the team. No player is above the team.

We lost to a better team and played our asses off. It was a great game

I disagree. We were the better team. Turnovers and dropped passes cost us that game. Grit and determination got us to OT, but another turnover in OT ended the game.

No turnovers = UT win in regulation.

Here's the problem with that, most of our injuries are on Defense. The people who were fumbling were players that would have been on the field anyway. Injuries do not explain the turnovers.

This team is the best I've seen us field in many years. It's not perfect and has areas that need improvement, but they have a heart I haven't seen at UT since at least the early '00's. I credit Butch for that. But if Butch gets credit for the good, he gets blame for the bad.

There's no need to be so rude to people, dude. While I'm super happy about the resiliency of this team and how hard they play, there is no excuse for turning the ball over 7 times. The OP brings up a good point.

Holy hell. A level headed person who can be objective and not blame everything on the refs when we shot ourselves in the foot.

Hope you're right. Hope they play like they're capable of

Might need to look in the mirror. We lost because of self-inflicted wounds. That's it. Not refs. Not injuries. Simple mistakes. Defense played as well as you could expect given the circumstances and that was good enough to win.

Hate away, 7 turnovers is the reason we lost a game we should've won by 2-3 TDs.

This may be right, but that doesn't mean it was a lack of discipline, or that it was right to drop on the team after playing their hearts out to overcome their own mistakes. It's the "never good enough, quickest to complain" group, that half.

But it was. I respect how they fought back but we beat ourselves by not covering the ball in traffic, in the red zone twice. And then not falling on the ball and instead trying to pick it up and run with it with all kinds of players around. Dropping wide open passes that turn into INTs, throwing into double coverage in OT, several pointless penalties. They're better than that. Took a lot of opportunities away from themselves.
