Yep. I'm an OG/traditionalist, but I'm not gonna complain if we don't see Bama, UGA and UF every damned season. This league was brutal. Throw in OU and Texas and it's now a murderers row. We'll have more than enough on our plate without Bama, UGA and UF annually. We've had that trifecta every year forever. The way the league shapes up all the traditional rivalries is pretty well set. UK, SCjr, UT and Vandy are the 4 teams that seem to have some degree of question. I don't think you can put SCjr and Vandy as "rivals", but UK and Vandy both qualify as rivals with UT. I think UK/SCjr and UT/Vandy make the most sense in the 1-7 scenario.Times are changing. Our biggest games are UF, Bama, and UGA. Now....what's our record over these teams the last 20 years??? Not sure why everybody is so dead set on keeping on keeping on. Sometimes a break in the routine(which for us is a routine whippin) is a good thing. Saban "Ducking" us...lol....People act like we whipped them last year. It's like we got all the good luck to counter all the bad luck from 15 years of losing to them all wrapped up with a great offensive performance of the ages. Let that sink in to all you hard core traditionalists who love getting whipped by Bama, UF, and UGA every single year with an occasasional once in a generation win for the ages. There will be playoffs and conferences championship games to play these tough opponents and there will be other tough opponents joining in the fray as well. I like a little variety and uncertainty rather than the usual I'll catch the game on YouTube tomorrow if we get lucky and beat the teams that have dominated us for a generation now.
Automatic playoffs every yearThe problem Tennessee has is that it is nobody else’s main rival. Possibly excepting Kentucky. Vanderbilt does not count, nobody cares. So it’s hard to know who they will pick as permanent rival(s) for UT whereas it’s more obvious for other schools. Kentucky would almost have to be one. They have no other historical/traditional conference rivals besides UT.
This guy begs to differ....The problem Tennessee has is that it is nobody else’s main rival. Possibly excepting Kentucky. Vanderbilt does not count, nobody cares. This will probably result in more teams in favor of 9 conference games with 3 permanent opponents.Hello folks. I have been reading volnation for a long time but finally decided to post something. I read an article that said Saban commented on his radio show that the SEC was going to a 1-7 scheduling model in 2025 and that their permanent opponent would be Auburn and that they would loose the Tennessee game. I just wondered if anybody else had heard anything on this.
Just not logical to have fixed opponents and have 16 equal SOS. Better chance of evening out over time without them.Never happen....makes too much sense.
Our schedule every year since I have ever paid attention has always been absolutely brutal.. common ideology was you don’t get to be the best without playing the best, but that’s not really accurate lolYep. SCarolina would be my least favorite regular opponent. We’ll be their Super Bowl every year. Dont want them thinking they matter to us. Would rather play Vandy
The 7-1 model has each team playing everyone else in the conference every other year. . No other model will.Good grief - someone doesn't want to play certain teams every year.
How about have all 12 games be against conference members. Each team has 9 that they play every year, with 3 rotating. Brutal - yes but no one is getting out of not playing the teams they don't want to play that way. And everyone gets to play Vandy twice in a 4 year time frame.
Yeah I am sure he is shaking in his boots about playing us next week. He's trying to drop both teams that beat him from his schedule on a permanent basis, bruh. And will cause every team in the SEC to permanently drop two of their three rival games to accommodate his plan. Chicken **** move imo. A lot of rivalry sacrificed to Nickie's whims. If you don't know the backstory, withhold judgement until you do.
When you say the 7-1 one model is the only one that will have you playing every team in a two-year window, I guess you mean with the conference remaining at 8 games. If the conference went to 9, the 6-3 model still allows you to play every team in the league over a two-year stretch. The 7-1 model has each team playing everyone else in the conference every other year. . No other model will.
Year 1- your every year opponent and 7 others
Year 2- your every year opponent and the other 7
Year 3- play the first 7 again and your 1 every year opponent.
Year 4- the 2nd 7 and your every year opponent
The 7-1 let’s you play the whole league in a 2 year window. Get to play the whole league at home at least every 4. And playing UK or Vandy every year and only playing Bama and UGA every other year would help us.
Yeah. TSIO is a tradition. But so was playing auburn every year up until 1992. So has playing Florida every year since 1992. Nothing lasts forever. Buck FAMA
LOL!Saban must be running for political office or the Commish position. So who wins Sanky or Saban.
Saban is throwing a hand grenade out there to see who will follow.
He did not like the 3 permanent opponents he drew knowing he will more than likely draw a loss every season from one of the three.
His plan is for a 1 opponent 2 times every four years which gives him an easier schedule.
Saban is losing his recruiting edge and cannot keep up with NIL and knows it.
He knows in the 6-3 format he will face a grind every year and does not like his odds doing so.
6-3 model is a put up or shut up schedule for him and he is Chicken Sh**!
So he decided to throw his opinion around like he always does and stir the crap.
Typical Saban.
*** 9 game schedule vs the Saban's 8 game schedule. Saban playing the odds of a tie going to him on a tie breaker. Plus the additional game for him is a potential lost. He is scared.
That's why there should be 3 rivalry games instead of one. You just stated the problem with Saban trying to change the system to 1 rival to duck TN and LSU. It impacts the whole league because every team has to cut two annual rivals to help Saban.georgia not canceling the cocktail party and auburn isn't skipping bama.
