No Huddle Offense

I am always happy when we try to improve ourselves. I cant imagine this being much different than what we did in 04, the ONLY QB we've ever had that I think DC or PF trusted enough to run a true NH wore 16 and left 10 years ago.

It may not wear us out, but anyone who says our Oline will react the same to being in a 2 point stance for the duration of the play clock as they do if they were standing relaxed in the huddle is just incorrect. It may not be much, but it will be there, and over the duration of a game, it will show up.

It will be tougger on the Dline due to them being in the 3 point. So all in all it is good for us.

They used ZERO huddles in the spring.

Right, but I was curious about a comment made that CDC would call the play after seeing how the defense lined up. Wouldn't we be in our stance at that point - and CDC calling the play from the sideline with signals? And if so, wouldn't those signals be at risk of being figured out by the opposition?

I would think they would have several sending in signals to mask it. If I can think of that surely a high paid OC will think of that.

(I'm assuming) With a difference in play calling. From what I understand, the Colts come to the line with 3 plays "called." QB then reads the defense and checks off to either one of two runs or the pass play. I seriously doubt that we are ready for that type of intricacy, especially with the newbies at receiver.
that is correct.....but they will probably have a run pass option for them ready to go......
Won't that require us to be very dependent on signals? That worries me a little.
yes, but i also think that they will have situational calls ready for Ainge to use....i find it hard to believe that each and every play will have to be signaled in. if so, then that's a waste of a sr. qb. give the kid a wristband and go....

as for the whole energy thing for the two opposing lines, one thing to consider is that if the D isn't getting set quickly enough, i'm sure they will have some quick counts ready to go for such occaisions where they can catch the D off guard if not properly set or to catch them off sides.

... and I'm sure opposing defenses will spend a litle bit of energy deciphering them - which was my worry.

As long as we're not relying on CDC to signal in every play, I'm not as concerned. But if we signal in 70 plays a game for 12 games, somebody is gonna start catching on.

As someone else mentioned, doing this removes the advantage of having a Sr QB. I can see a couple calls coming in from the sidelines but not all.

Yeah, I would have to think calling them in from the sideline won't be routine... too many things that can go wrong.

 this won't be a reincarnation of the 04 "check the sidelines before every snap" offense.

erik Ainge will be expected to call the plays......and make necessary checks........

Yes. I can imagine guys going to a knee only to have the ball snapped and Parker maul them.

It isn't as easy but you can do most things from a 2 pt stance.

However, I think Long said that the S&C program over the summer was designed around getting guys ready to run the no huddle... holding their stance et al.
