No Happy Ending

Of the last 40 head coaches hired in SEC football, 5 where sitting Power 5 head coaches. Tennessee is about the 7th best program in the SEC (except for the great Hall of Fame Fulmer era). So for some to think Tennessee is to good for a great coordinator hire you are simply out to lunch.

If it is Pruitt, my question is will he wear a Vol shirt but a bummer crimson hat on the sidelines.

Right now, Tennessee's just trying to pull itself out of the gutter and will worry about the long term later

Well, I wasn't impressed with a guy named Kirby Smart when he replaced Richt at Georgia and went 8-5 last season (including a loss to Vandy), but then look how he has turned it around this season. I know (Richt's players), but he will have no trouble recruiting after this season. We all wanted a better "name" head coach, but we are where we are and we just need to get him in place, try to stabilize this recruiting class and move forward.

Yet....
UCLA-Kelly
ASU-Edwards
A&M -Fisher

Maybe Fans are just tired of watching other teams get proven coaches instead of coordinators.

You included 70 year old Herm Edwards on that list?? I guess we could have re-hired Johnny Majors. Chip Kelly wanted to be on the West coast, assuming there isn't going to be a cataclysmic fault shift then we are never going to be on the West coast. Jimbo Fisher is the only real head scratcher but maybe he just wanted out of FSU. Dan Mullen had ties to UF so to suggest all these other schools are just picking and choosing who they want is just silly. Mississippi State hired a coordinator, Arkansas hired a relatively unproven coach, FSU just hired a coach that has had three jobs in one year, and UT is a giant turd sandwich right now. What did you think was going to happen?

These were not the guys I was hoping for. But if we follow the UGA example of hiring a long time Saban Assistant. There’s one thing for certain, they have the blueprint for success. No hire will guarantees wins. But we do know that our coach has studied at the top program & coach in the country.

UT’s Administration has backed up our fanbase into a wall.

More than likely, Fulmer will bring in an underwhelming hire whether it’s Pruitt, Steele, Tucker, or some other Google coach.

5 years of Butch, embarrassing cliches, negative National media, turning into bottom dwellers of the SEC, you name it.

Most of us thought it’d be our time to make UT relevant again. I really believed our Administration would have a whole new outlook and learn from their past mistakes.

It’s the same ole story with the same ole outcome.

5 years of rebuilding and yet, we’ve continued to go on this downward spiral.

I respect Fulmer and still greatly appreciate what he’s done for the University of Tennessee but he didn’t know what he was getting himself into.

Regardless if one of the finalists is hired, it won’t have a happy ending.

We deserve so much better but it’s too obvious they don’t care. Never have, never will.

I’ll continue to support my Vols however, my expectations won’t be near as high as they used to be.

:good!: This.

He is just a 'like' fisherman, ignore him

Sorry that being honest hurt your feelings.

Maybe if you’d stop living in your fantasy world where it’s all sunshine & rainbows, you’d take a closer look on what’s really happening right in front of you.

Our Administration is a joke.

I'm kind of tired of posting this but it is simple. Mike Leach won't allow an AD or Chancellor control his message or persona. Therefore they are very afraid of him.

Can you imagine Deavenport or Fulmer trying to get Leach to toe the line on ANY subject. He would be much more apt to tell them to eff off than to find a way to agree with them as most coaches making millions would.

Leach would steamroll BD with his personality (and in her defense he would most chancellors) and Fulmer with his intellect (and his Fulmers defense he would do this to most AD's). This is why he isn't hired at most schools. He can be a loose cannon and to admin types there is little worse.

I like Deavenport and love Phil but there is little chance they would ever hire Leach. In my opinion fans should embrace him and his persona but in the end it doesn't matter as he isn't coming here.

You can make all the ridiculous and lame excuses you want. Do you know Leach personally? Do you kmow his relationships he has had with ADs at TT and WSU? If not then please stop with the conjecture.

Leach has not been hired by ANY big time program. There have been many openings since he left TT yet he went to Washington State. You are what your record says you are. Leach is mediocre.

Yep. Its year zero in 2018. Reset the excuse buttons for why whatever crappy coach we hire fails yet again.

3-5 years later. Rinse and repeat. Until the cancer that is Haslam is removed, this is our perpetual cycle.

I don't think it's a failure to hire one dc that is in the college football playoff. We will get a lot of positive publicity. Gbo make it happen Phil!

I hope we are all eating crow after this. I'm not saying the hire will turn out good, just saying I hope.

I mean when Mike Leach is interested in the job and you hire Kevin ****ing Steele or Jeremy Pruitt - I think there is plenty wrong with that.

Most college football fans know who Pruitt is. And what if he turns out to be a great HC. Look I get it, I want the relief of knowing we hired a proven HC but maybe that’s just not in the cards. Just going to have to trust Fulmer.

We could have had Kiffin.
