The way the fan base turned based on second hand hearsay!!! No coach will touch the job that will have any proven quality. TENNESSEE FANS PROVED HOW IGNORANT THEY ARE YESTERDAY AND NO COACH WANTS THAT HEADACHE OF A IGNORANT UNINFORMED CRAZY FANBASE.

Its an uphill battle at this point, imo. Its probably worse than when Lamo quit, imo. Time will heal the wounds but its going to take some work.

I said out here a few months ago, the firing is the easy part.... now I think everyone gets it.

so we should have just set back and accepted this coaching hire? Penn State stuff aside. You wanted to accept to middle of the road coach? That is what is wrong with TN athletics too many people accept mediocrity.

Agreed it's going to take some work, 10-15 years maybe (coaches won't forget this) AGENTS OF COACHES WONT FORGET THIS. And recruits will be reminded of this.

Schiano was number 2 for me

But he is a good coach and what ignorant Tennessee fans did is crazy.

It was DOUBLE HEARSAY that Schiano turned white not that he actually saw something.

And people let a newspaper headline that's meant to shock you put images in your head that people claimed as facts

I fear fans double up, meaning they find someone else not named Gruden and fans do a repeat of this. We'll see, but yeah, there is a black eye for a bit... but time will heal the wound. I feel bad.

Coaches are in the business of coaching. If the conditions are right, folks will take the job.

Personally, I think UT needs an SEC guy. I'd love to have a UT grad, but a guy that would stay 10 years, sure.

Les Miles would crawl naked over broken glass to take the job. Don't worry so much.

Even without all that hes not a good coach. He had 1 really good year with Rutgers. NFL players hated him. Said they felt like they were in Cuba. Said it was his way or F you. Sound familiar? ???

We saved our program from forever being associated with a child rape enabler.

But 4-8 to 8-4 football is the new norm. UT football will never be great again. The child rape enabler wouldn't have changed that.

I live in South Florida and was raised in east Virginia, not everyone who went to UT is from East Tennessee, nor live there, don't be so silly and generalize as such. Perhaps you should get out more.

You don't get into coaching, especially coaching at the SEC level, not to expect pressure. If you don't have the personality for it, you need to be working a carefree 9-5 desk job.

Alabama went 67-55 between Gene Stallings and Nick Saban.

Mediocrity.

Debose, Franchione, Shula. None of them could get the job done, but in the end THEIR athletic department finally rejected failure and hired Nick Saban, who knew what type of job he was getting into, where the expectations were SEC Championships and National Championships. He carried with him a previous National Title in the SEC prior to being a mediocre NFL coach. Schiano carried "decency" in the Big East conference with Rutgers. And before that, he carried a stain of a bygone era at Penn State that should have kept him FAR away from the opportunity to make Rutgers nationally relevant in the first place.

So spare us your whiny "we won't win for 15 years" rant by calling the protest ignorant. It's obvious you're willing to accept your yearly serving of mediocrity and even salvage morality over it.

99% of us are not.

We are the #2 school in revenue when it comes to football. I still can't figure out why yhis administration doesn't understand that paying two people 4-6 million a year is worse than paying one 8-12...just saying. As for Schiano, we deserve better as a hire. Once again a Non SEC caliber coach was brought to the table bc he was a friend of a friend. His coaching merits are not great. Then add his reputation/allegations...yeah not the best hire. We deserve better and we will either get there or we won't. If UT athletics continue this downward spiral people will quit spending their money and UT will either address it or they will find themselves out of a bunch of revenue. VFL

Funny, you’ll just accept anything someone wants to ram down your throat? I sure don’t want you negotiating anything for me. This was a horribly weak hire with baggage we didn’t need. Good gawd man, stand up for yourself. Lay the blame where it belongs...with the Admin and Currie. There’s a slew of good coaches available and we went shopping at Wal Mart...again.
