I think the Orange Koolaid was flowing strong in the off-season.... we wanted to believe in miracles.

But our talent is below SEC level.
This is a breakdown of each position group:

1. QB - bottom SEC level
2. RB - mid SEC level (lacks depth, blocking, etc)
3. TE - mid SEC (lacks depth)
4. WR - mid-upper SEC
5. OL - bottom-mid SEC
6. DL - bottom SEC
7. LB - bottom SEC
8. DB - bottom - mid SEC (need more depth)
9. Special Teams - mid- upper
10. Coaching - upper

So, if you average out position groups out, and realize the severe lack of depth that we have, this is not an SEC type of roster. We have a doormat quality team.

This was the team that Jones left here. It cannot be fixed in a year or two. This is a 4-5 year minimum rebuild. If Pruitt hadn’t recruited Carvin, Banks, Kennedy, Solomon, Middleton, Savion Williams, Alontae, Thompson (hope he returns), then this roster would be absolute trash.

Without freshman like Toto, Wanye, Darnell Wright, Burrell, etc who can play right away, it would just be even worse.

Yea we need much better coaching. If we can get another great 25 players then I think we can start making progress next year hopefully..... but this is going to take 3-4 more years unfortunately imo..

Excellent post. This is not a competitive team. It will be ... in another 2-3 years. It that’s also why nobody wanted the job ... who wants to tarnish their reputation waiting to develop players?

Everything you listed still beats Ga St by 30.

Nick saban couldn’t have walked into this mess and fixed it in less than 4 years. Expecting Pruitt to be able to do that is silly. Saban had bad losses his first year at bama. Georgia southern beat Florida in the swamp 5 years ago. It happens. We’re all just tired of going in circles but the truth is we probably won’t be that good next year either and I’m a huge Pruitt supporter. Is what it is.

Ga St game was horrible... but honestly in the big picture it’s irrelevant... only thing that matters is recruiting and loading the roster and developing the talent....

Our team is horrendous...when you hv a bad qback and terrible defense what can you really do?

If we can get to 6-6 Pruitt should win national
Coach of the year imo...

Stop lying. I and others have already posted Bama's record in the ten years prior to Saban being hired - it was nearly identical to ours for the last ten years. They had three different seasons where they lost 8 or more games, so arguably they were in worse shape than we are.

Have to disagree about defensive backs and linebackers. I believe we are upper SEC with defensive backs. If we go with To'o To'o, Bituli, Banks, and Crouch I believe our Linbackers are at least mid SEC.

Irrelevant? Pruitt has the team ready to throttle a bottom of the Sunbelt team like he should have, and we aren't even having this conversation.

Talent had nothing to do with the lack of effort from both the players and the coaches on Saturday.

They went through 4 coaches and 3 AD’s in that 10 years too?

What an interesting fact.

If you think our roster/depth is anywhere close to bamas when saban took over you don’t watch football. Alabama had a stretch of bad years and shuffling coaches like us but he took over a roster with depth on both lines of scrimmage and the majority of a team who went 10-2 in 2005.

I gave you one of your two first likes...congrats. in the offseason I said it will take CJP 3 to 5 years to re-build this program--I still believe that. I did some b!tching last Saturday and Sunday, and I don't blame anybody who did, but all of these threads popping up saying Pruitt can't coach and fire Pruitt, etc are getting out of hand. If it was any kind of rebuilding job he hired on for, to start calling for his head after the first game of his second year is silly, negative, and never going to happen, I don't care who he lost to. This man needs three full years before the whining even starts. Then, another year or two of whining before any action is taken. We need some stability.

The GA St game was not irrelevant to recruiting. When you are trying to improve your talent level, a loss to one of the worst teams in college football is not something that impresses recruits.

Um...we have something like the 14 best roster according to 247. The bodies are there. If they ya ent been developed at all that’s partially on butch jones but partially on Pruitt. Pruitt definitely isn’t getting anyone up to speed quickly. We’ve no doubt regressed. And to reply directly to a couple op’s position group evaluations...we might have a decent qb. Don’t know. We absolutely haven’t been playing a good one. But both mauer and stout have a chance to be studs. You never know till they get out there. Any hs qb thats a 3* or better has good enough arm strength and can make all the throws. Beyond that it’s a crap shoot who’ll pan out and who won’t. Nearly 50% of the 5 stars out of his end up transferring at least once. What makes a great qb is moxie. Their knowledge of the game and competitiveness, ability to make quick/good decisions, and choosing the right time to take shots. Jg has none of that.
QB is without a doubt the hardest position group to rank in recruiting. The guys with the highest ratings tend to come from power house high schools and have coaches with connections. They go to camps and easier their profile. Neither stout or mauer were at that type program. So just the fact that they were 3 star kids says a lot. I hope the get their shots this year. What the hell do we have to lose? We had one of the worst losses in college football history. There’s absolutely nothing significant in play this season. Might as well focus on the future and getting guys better. And jg definitely isnt the future here.

They went through five coaches in that time period, genius. Maybe do a little research before making a post next time.

We have a staff of coaches who have all been successful everywhere they’ve been and are veterans in coaching/recruiting the sec. the only 2 options are they all magically forgot how to coach/win football games the same exact year or they’re coaching players who aren’t that good and haven’t been that good no matter who the coach has been. Which one seems more likely?
