Like most on the board I'm anxious to put 08 behind us. However, no one is talking about the missed practice time.

It may have been a moot point given that the current coaching staff would've likely coached it....but one has to wonder if the loss to Wyoming will end up costing the Vols a little bit anyway.

Losing the practice time hurts. But really lex i see it as minimal in the current situation. I think additude was a huge part of our problem this year. I think that gets fixed in the spring and things get going in the direction we all want.

They practiced all year and it didn't help them so I don't think 4 more weeks of practice would of had that much of an impact. I look at it as a headstart for recruiting and everyone knows we need all the advantages we can get there.

Are you guys insane? They would have gotten more practice time in prep for a bowl game than they will all of sprint practice.

Thinking from a different angle... if they were going to a bowl, the staff wouldn't have been announced yet, and wouldn't be able to be officially recruiting in this time. The players can and absolutely should be hitting the gym to be in top physical condition come practice time though... at least the smart ones will be.

and they would be practicing Clawson's offense and Chavis' D.. what good does that do us?

With Kiffin coming in we gained an extra month of recruiting where he can hit the road and recruit his ass off.

Fulmer and the last staff still being here coaching a toilet bowl would be the worst thing possible for the future of the Vols.

According to Fulmer the practices were awesome. It was the actual games that threw that everyone off.

That is why I wondered if the thread was worth posting.

now lex, i've mentioned it...:p....at least as in relation as to why i think we should keep our expectations tempered. the first real look they get at this bunch will be Spring Ball.

we thought last spring was "new"...........sheesh.....this year is starting over from scratch.

any time that we had an opportunity to practice that is missed, is a blow.

It has definite relevance, but IMO the most valuable time is now when Kiffin can talk to recruits for a full month more than he would have had if there was a bowl game.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think it'll matter. I think we'll be seeing a lot of our incoming Freshmen this year. I just have that feeling.

It didn't kill us to bad in 2006, that year started out pretty well if I remember correctly...I will trade the crappy practices with the old staff for less with the new staff!

I agree with you to a point but it was worth it to get the new staff on campus and recruiting. The energy infused into the program is worth more than a few extra practices run by Fulmer and Co. They had all year to practice and it didn't seem to help anything.

Agreed. A month of extra practice with the outgoing staff wouldn't make a bit of difference with the new staff coming in.

The only way it would have helped if we were keeping Fulmer and Co. And if we were, we'd be going bowling because the team wouldn't have had the distractions the week of the Wyoming game.

A lot of us wanted a clean house to start fresh with. This is what one looks like. The new staff got brought in sooner, and they have more time to focus on reorganizing, recruiting, and figuring out a strategy for the future. I think we gained as much if not more than what we would have lost preparing for a crappy bowl game with a lame duck coach.

The players don't need formal practice to prepare for next year. Like EB said after the KY game, hit the books, the weights and do the little things to get better.

I don't think so. It would have just prolonged the misery for everyone involved (especially for the players). Spring is a fresh start and more time to focus on recruiting.

Really, I think no bowl is the best possible scenario in this situation.

Say we don't blow the UCLA game or fumble away the Auburn game, CPF isn't fired after South Carolina game, and we beat Wyoming. We're 8-4 and bowling...

...and stuck with CPF for at least another year, probably with another raise and extension.

Some lost practice time is a small price to pay for a new direction with CLK.

The silver lining is that Vandy sends us money from bowl game revenue this year!!!!

For a change!

Why did Vandy make a bowl game this year???

They took MTSU off their schedule!!!
