1 Peter 5:8 ESV

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

You are obviously unclear as to what "sober-minded" means

1 Peter 1:13 ESV

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Again, unclear on "sober-minded"

Romans 13:1-5 ESV

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.

So when they make abortion and gay marriage legal, you shouldnt have a damn thing to say about it right?

Luke 20:25 ESV

He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”

I guess I'm missing where this has anything to do with this subject.....at all

Weed clouds judgement. Therefore affecting being sober-minded.

The third verse very clearly addresses that you only ignore governing authorities if it contradicts God's laws.

The forth verse is another verse that supports following earthly leadership. So until weed is legal in Mississippi or wherever else, it is 100% against God's word.

There's no debating that....

Did you miss this part of the third verse? What about it says to you that we have any power to make our own judgments on whether the law contradicts God's law?? I'm in no way a Bible buff or anything but that one sounded absurd when I read it

I'm genuinely curious BTW

Being sober-minded has nothing to do with intoxication.

Rendering to Caesar is specifically dealing with giving tribute (taxes) to Caesar (Gov) things that are his. This was a response from Christ when he was asked whether or not they should pay taxes to Caesar.........nothing to do with following law .....at all.

Just my :twocents:

We were all gifted with free will. We are free to make our own choices in life. We will be judged when we pass on by what is in "The Book of Life".

The good book says

"So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."
John 8:7 - King James Bible "Authorized Version", Cambridge Edition

So which sin is greater judging someone or smoking herb?

It was funny to read the first page and skip to the last. This thread went places.

Weed should be decriminalized. Jesus doesn't care about it. Don't be stupid about it.

Lol should be equal. Neither makes a difference in the life of the other imo

Sorry different verse. That one is just saying that we are to follow the earthly laws. As far as an earthly law that contradicts God's law...

Acts 5:40-42
40 and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. 42 And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.

Acts: 5:27-29
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, e“We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you fintend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, g“We must obey God rather than men.

And for the record, I don't think weed should be illegal. And I also am not trying to say that people shouldn't do it.

I'm simply saying that if you claim to be a Christian, you can't claim that it's "right" or "okay" to smoke weed. Because to go against the law is certainly sinful in this case.

Not to mention, the question "what can I get away with" is inherently sinful. Big difference between that and "what is best to further the kingdom of God?".

Dude. Keep your cult to yourself.

"Church" is supposed to be a place where flawed people congregate. It is a house of the Lord. There is no chance that you can call a weed smoking person a bad Christian.

Christians are humans, and therefore flawed. Perfection is not human trait.

You need to stop with your antiquated ways.

If God doesn't accept people for their flaws, then there is no such thing as God.

You're the worst kind of Christian. The snooty people that judge everyone else they see, while ignoring their own landscape.

Enjoy your pitiful existence.

The God I was brought up on preached acceptance and love.

May I add....going to church every time the doors are open and/or quoting the bible, doesn't make me a GOOD Christian any more than going to the hospital makes me a surgeon. And...the ONLY one qualified to judge anyone's Christianity is God himself.

GBO!

Judging actions is different then judging a person. If you are saying one thing then doing another, your actions are not following God and at that point his name shouldn't be brought into the discussion as a defense.

Looking down upon someone, hating someone for their sin is incorrect judgement.

Telling someone that the Bible speaks differently about Christians and for you to say it's ok as a Christian is wrong and it's not what judging is about.

Do you tell Jesus he was Judging when he went into the temple and turned over the tables. Was he "judging" them or was it biblical anger. Did he hate them or look down on them? No. He was still there to speak and love them!

They were using the church for money. He made it clear it was wrong. You don't use church to support you mind altering habit.

Sometimes Christians have to speak up and I find every time they do the first response is "you can't judge me". If you don't see it, you choose not to.

It's ok if most on here don't see my way. I can take a beating when I've been on both sides and I know right from wrong. I know when the Holy Spirit tells me I'm wrong. I try to be the best Christian I can (sometimes I fail) and sometimes you're not liked for it. They hung Jesus for it.

So I guess you are pro-gay marriage?

:)

Ain't nobody got time for that !

What does gay marriage have to do with this? "Being subject to the governing authorities" (in this case, not breaking the law by smoking, growing, selling, etc... pot in a state which has deemed those activities illegal) is simply not breaking the law. It has nothing to do with being in favor of/supporting the law.

By your rationale, if gay marriage is legalized we'll all need to be in favor of it, or better yet, go marry someone of the same gender, in order to be subject to it. That's not how this works, nor is the poster you quoted arguing that he is in favor of pot being illegal. This is not complicated.

In other news, hopefully Nkemdiche gets suspended for our game.

It was just a little quip not serious.

I hope he doesn't get suspended because of this and I hope the idiot that released the picture gets nut rot.

You religious freaks are scary. That's why this world has always had corruption. As long as there is a "God" to point to, there will be people to take advantage of and people to subjugate.

There are as many stories of "God" being used for war, death, condemnation, and outright evil as there are of His presence being used for good and hope.

Gotcha... I personally don't think pot should be illegal. That said, it is, and dude was stupid enough to hit a bong on camera. If he gets suspended, so be it.

On a more serious note, "nut rot" sounds like the most unpleasant thing in the history of nuts.

How do you think they will prove that it was actually him in the picture?

And that the water pipe he was using didn't have tobacco in it?

Seems irrelevant to me: nothing can be proven with a picture. It could be tobacco and, as we all know, these are sold for "Tobacco Use Only" lol. It was also in August so drug testing is also irrelevant unless he is a regular user which I doubt given the drug testing rules and randoms from the NCAA not just the team.

Again I think it was a punk move to release this, a beeyatch move to admit your motives and is another black eye embarrassment on UT football. Whats next, poisoning trees?

Yep I honestly couldn't imagine thinking that releasing this picture is somehow cool. What a complete tool bag.

I agree with your assessment of the individual...but enough of the "embarrassment" crap... As for the Toomer's Corner reference, Harvey Updyke did the crime and time on that...hasn't destroyed sale of Bama merchandise.
