I'm looking into trading in my car for a Nissan Frontier with low mileage. Anybody owned one with opinions on the truck and how it ran or heard anything? Reviews online seem pretty good and I like the look

Kinda bad on gas. Beyond that not a bad truck if you like it. Toyota Tacoma holds a higher residual value though.

I have a Frontier now. I like it. Gas mileage sucks. My buddy gets 2-3 MPG better with a comparable Taco.

There's about 10 Tacos that people have I work with. I like being different

Having owned multiple Nissans and Toyotas, I would go with a Tacoma as well. Toyota just makes a better overall vehicle

Bought my crew cab 4x4 new back in 2000, 190k later, it is still a very reliable vehicle. Other than scheduled maintenance I have had only one major repair (A/C). Starting to have some small oil leaks...mechanic attributes to "old seals". Gas mileage sucks.
I too am in the market and really like the Tacoma ;however, they seem to be a bit more costly than the Nissan.

Does the Tacoma get much better gas mileage? Reviews for both the Taco and Frontier seem very comparable.

if you're looking for anything aftermarket then go with the Toyota. They make everything for them because, as one vendor put it, "Toyota owners will buy anything." I've got an Xterra which is pretty similar and love it. You may want to check out ClubFrontier.org as there's always good info over there

I have a 2012 CC Pro-4X Frontier. My buddy has a 2012 Tacoma CC TRD Off road. He gets slightly better gas mileage. Though as I'm putting more miles(currently at 2,706) it's been improving. On fuelly I'm averaging 15.9 he's averaging 17.6. I have 12 fuel ups compared to his 34.

I have a 2009 Frontier Crew Cab I purchased new. I have not had a single issue with it yet at 60,000 miles. I also considered Tacomas, which I really liked the look & feel of as well. That being said, new Tacoma's are pricey when compared to Frontiers. I have a V8 and gas mileage is okay. It's not stellar but I didn't expect the gas mileage of a Honda Accord when I bought it either.

Those are pretty much my thoughts exactly. I found a new one in Oak Ridge at a great price... almost too good to pass

I went thru this decision too. Frontiers look better to me on the exterior - Tacos on the interior. Toss up.

I've had 2 recent Tacos - a 2001 that I bought used from a Toyota dealer, used sparingly for 3 years (about 5k miles) and sold for 500 more than I paid for it (it was a desirable model - 4x4, 5spd, 2.7) and a 2012 purchased new at the end of 2012 that I had to get rid of in a short (3 months) period of time. I sold it for exactly what I paid for it new from a dealer. Having bought and sold more than 30 cars, these are the only two that held value that way. If you are not planning to keep it for a long time then the Taco is worth the premium.

I'm leaning towards holding it for quite some time as my primary vehicle. Thanks for the valuable info.

I found a new 2012 one at Oak Ridge Nissan for 25,000 with 0% interest... That is pretty tough to pass up I think, especially if I could work them down 2,000 more.

I never considered the Frontier. I compared the Tacoma with the Ridgeline. I settled on the Ridgeline, primarily because I've always owned Hondas. It's the best vehicle I've owned. I'm sure I would've liked the Tacoma as well. Can't go wrong with either imo.

For all the complaints about mpg, its a truck. If mpg is important, buy a Prius.

I compared all 3 (Fronty, Taco and Ridgeline) before getting the Nissan. I came close to getting the Ridgeline Sport as I've owned 3 Hondas previously.

Looks wise I'd say: Fronty - Ridgeline - Taco

The other deciding factor for me was the back seat in the double cab for the Taco was reasonable for carting adults around. Not so much in the Frontier.

All else being equal and especially if I wasn't worried about carting 4 folks around I'd go with the Frontier.

One other note. The Taco had a good tow rating but I found that the V6 never really impressed me with it's practical power. The Frontier felt more responsive in daily driving situations. I'd rather enjoy the ride than have slightly better MPG

Good for you, hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I have mine.

Giving my 2000 model to my son for his first vehicle. Which model did you get? Pics?

Not to completely hijack, but has anybody had experience with some midsize suv's?

Nissan pathfinder
Xterra
Toyota 4runner
Ford escape
Etc.

Something that gets decent milage but has room for people and stuff. Advice?

I had an Xterra. Wasn't great on gas mileage. It was an ok vehicle. We have a Toyota Sequoia now and gets about the same on gas surprisingly
