Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite Chatter

That I could get behind depending on how it works.

I just hope they aren't making something along the lines of a Pokemon Snap type of game.

I'm with you on that but you'd be amazed at how popular Pokémon Snap was back in the day and how many people still talk about that game fondly. I was more of a Pokémon Stadium fan than Snap.

Is breath of the wild too difficult for an 8 year old?

For reference he is good at odyssey but uses assist mode a lot.

Depends on how you play it. If he likes exploring he can travel the open world and learn how to get better. The puzzles could be difficult for his age but it's still fun.

I haven't owned a tennis game since Virtua Tennis on the Sega Dreamcast. But I just might have to buy this one. It looks fun.

So was I. I enjoyed Stadium and Stadium 2 much more than Snap. Snap just wasn't my type of game. Stadium was good, but I would have much rather had an actual Pokemon game like the handhelds.

Between the N64, Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U, never will I understand why Nintendo didn't bother to do a true home console Pokémon RPG game on ANY of those platforms.

I think this is the first console that they can do it and it truly feel like a Pokemon game and not a side game

For those of you who are fans of Dynasty Warriors gameplay, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition comes out tomorrow. Looks pretty good but it's not my thing.

Not sure about this since their handhelds out number their home consoles by a huge margin.

True. I do think it would prompt more Switch's to be bought than handhelds, though. And, it would really keep the ball rolling for consumers to desire having a Switch (if they haven't already bought one).

Pokemon will absolutely drive Switch sales, especially in Japan. Its huge business, maybe even more so than Zelda or Mario.

Having the Go integration makes sense as that game reached a huge casual crowd. I'm sure once word is out that there's carry over from Go to the Switch game, it will motivate at least a portion of that crowd to buy Switches and copies of the Switch game.

3DS is done, at least in terms of new software. It's being reported that Nintendo will have no 3DS presence at E3 this year. It's all about Switch now.

They are going back to the 2DS. They have some new bundles and versions of it coming out now. I haven't bought a handheld since the Gameboy Advanced SP lol. IMO, if Nintendo plays it right, they wont have to have a need for handhelds because that's what the Switch actually is. One massive handheld.

I don't think the 2DS is in their future plans anymore than the 3DS. I'm not aware of any new model of it coming out any time soon. And I'm pretty sure Nintendo's plans are going to be solely on the Switch and secondarily the mini consoles (NES, Super NES, etc.).

They claimed back when the DS was released that they didn't consider it a replacement for the Game Boy Advance, and in reality that's exactly what they were planning.

Not really a new "model", but they do have this version that is flat and doesn't flip up. Dunno why anyone would want that. Anyway, they are making new specialty versions of the 2DS like the Pikachu one and what not. If this isn't new then my apologies. It is new to me and from what I have heard it is the direction Nintendo is going with the handheld. I agree the handheld is losing ground as the Switch is a handheld itself. No need to make 2 of them.

Yeah they have the Pikachu one but I think that's just a cash in. I mean they just released a Metroid 3DS last fall when Samus Returns came out. I've read nothing that states they are specifically going to support the 2DS and that wouldn't really make much sense considering it's the same machine as the 3DS, just no 3D screen. There are no games announced that specifically are made for the 2DS.

2018 is likely the last year Nintendo really supports the handhelds. They only have a handful of games announced and one of them is a remake of a Mario & Luigi game.

It's kinda making me sad to be seeing handhelds going away. Man, that was a big part of my being a kid. I still have my Gameboy Pocket. Never letting that on go.

The Switch IS a handheld. You don't think it is? I definitely see it as a hand-held that connects to your TV, rather than a home console that you can take on the go.

I'll say one thing about my son's 3DS. That sucker was built to last! I cannot tell you how many times that thing has been dropped, stepped on, left in the car in the heat/cold, etc and it just keeps on ticking! That thing is a TANK!

That's something I've always loved about Nintendo hardware and accessories. While Nintendo may not always use the most cutting edge specs, they definitely do not skimp when it comes to build quality. The original NES was cheaply made. However it's top loading re-design wasn't and from that model, through to today, every single Nintendo console/handheld I've owned has been built with quality components. Their products never feel "chincy" and are always among the lowest in terms of failure rate.

I view the Switch as both a handheld and a console. Sure you could play it as nothing but a handheld, but there's just something about playing Mario kart on the big screen that makes you realize it's a console.

I guess I see it more as a handheld because that's how my son plays it most of the time. Like you, I prefer to play it on my big TV. I suppose that's the beauty of its design. It serves both needs equally well.

One of the main reasons I really like the Switch.

I've actually said in previous posts that the Switch really is just a big handheld. In the post you quoted I should have put "small handhelds". And I agree on Nintendo product being top notch. My Gameboy Pocket still works like normal. And my SNES and GameCube still work like new. The Switch may not be the most fancy high tech system out there, but Nintendo knows how to make a system and not cheat their fans.

My top loader NES and my SNES survived a house fire Thanksgiving ‘95. They still work, but they’re a bit grimy looking.
