Mainly, the focus has been on players benefiting from sponsor type income sources. However, it appears income isn't limited to that. Marhsall's OL, Will Ulmer apparently desires to be a country music artist and relishes being able to openly perform instead of doing so sneakily. SMU defensive back Ra-Sun Kazadi fancies himself an artist and seeks to be able to finally sell his art without fear of penalties. So I suppose, players not latching onto product sponsors but having some type of marketable skill can finally market their skills openly for the first time. Might reduce any possible jealousy in the locker rooms.

What I have been wondering lately about this whole NIL thing - could it have any effect on the big name schools paying recruits big money? I know I know, they all do it, but it seems like some are way better at it than others. But now it's basically legal. "Hello recruit, come play for us and you will get an NIL contract to drive this new car from So and So Mercedes!" Now that any school can do it legally, will the dispersion of top recruits begin to spread out?

I will always feel bad for the Olympic kid. I think he may have played football for Colorado. They made a movie about his sister.

Nope, the rich get richer and the rich get richer. Period.

Ah, sorry man, we already had like two weeks of NIL arguments - excuse me, conversations - like a month ago. It was a whole thing. Pages and pages. Lots of armchair explanations and debates. Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. Whole big thing.

I wouldn’t say this is a twist, but a known problem that NIL would fix.

Guys will now have side "jobs" where they show up at the dealership for an hour or two here and there for a special sale day and get a salary - nice thing is that is now tax deductible for the sponsor. So many ways to play it now.

Question is will a player be suspended from a team if he fails to pay income tax on his NIL income ? Nothings free and Uncle Sam is waiting. They kick them off for drugs , domestic violence, petty theft. What about tax evasion.

Are they going to focus more in advertising or playing?

How quickly are people going to get creative with this NIL stuff?

For Profit - you could see something like Knoxville NIL Alliance (a theoretical business) to pool money from businesses, boosters, politicians, etc to create NIL media and marketing campaigns and make pitches to Knoxville area athletes.

Non-Profit - you could have a Knoxville based 501c3 committed to "awareness of charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, public safety, etc issues" - awareness achieved by paying athletes with a platform to spread such awareness campaigns. Donors could receive a tax deduction and the $ ends up in athlete's hands.

Where can one find this Ra-Sun brand of art?

Like the old Robby Benson movie, One On One, where his job was to make sure the automatic sprinkler system was working.

So perhaps a situation where it is a given fact that all players of a certain team just so happen to be paid by the same company. You may have a national oil / truck stop business that pays each player a huge amount to smile for the camera once or twice. Soon it just becomes which schools have better "given" benefits. Probably already started somewhere.

This is going to be BIG business for a bunch of "agents" which work all kinds of deals for players. The schools which have the best NIL programs will be the ones getting all the great recruits. I understand players wanting to get money for jerseys sold and etc., but this is going to fundamentally change the way College Football teams get and maintain players. Hey John Smith, we see you are doing well for the Vols but we have a million dollar deal for you if you enter the portal and slip over to Bama. Call Nick @ 800-555-1212
